Father Henry Carr Inaugurates
its “Field of Dreams”
The official opening of the Field of Dreams was held on June
10. The opening ceremony featured a performance by
the Father Henry Carr renowned Drum Line, a number of
speakers from various levels of government, the TCDSB and
the wider community who have supported the project and the
blessing of the playing field.
Father Henry Carr has a long history of athletic success in
a variety of sports disciplines. Other athletic
organizations in the community will also have access to the
new playing field on weekends and evenings during the school
year.
The new playing field and track at Father Henry Carr
Catholic Secondary School contains artificial FIFA-regulation
turf field for soccer, football, rugby, and other
recreational sports, a 6-lane rubberized track, and
rough-ins for night lighting. -

The Future of My Community – An Urban Design
Challenge
Technological Design students at Father Henry Carr Catholic
Secondary School were challenged to review and analyze a specific
area in their immediate neighbourhood and propose a visionary
redevelopment scheme that would address the future needs of their
community. The site chosen for analysis was the former Father Henry
Carr site in north Etobicoke. Students developed and produced
models, drawings, and a written brief of their proposals. The
activity was enriched with a guest speaker from the City of Toronto
Urban Planning Department. The activity allowed students to deal
with a real set of circumstances in their own community, in addition
to bridging careers in urban planning, architecture, and
engineering.
The OSSLT shows the extent to which Ontario students are meeting the minimum literacy standard expected by the end of Grade 9. The test assesses the reading and writing skills as they apply to all subjects as out-lined in the Ontario Curriculum. Students must pass the OSSLT as one of the 32 requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
