TEAMS Math Olympics Results
The TCDSB Mathematics Department and the TEAMS Math Olympics committee would like to congratulate the grade 7 and grade 8 students who participated in the TEAMS Math Olympics held on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Over 115 mathletes from the TCDSB and the TDSB took part in the event and they enjoyed the day immensely! It was exciting to see students engage in individual and collaborative mathematics problem solving activities.
Twelve grade 7 and grade 8 students from Toronto schools (TCDSB and TDSB) will advance to the 18th Ontario Mathematics Olympiad to be held at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario on June 8th and June 9th, hosted by SWOAME (South Western Ontario Association for Mathematics Education).
The results for the TCDSB students are as follows:
Gold: These students advance to the Ontario Mathematics Olympiad.
Holy Spirit – Elaine Calma, Grade 7
St. Vincent de Paul – Paula Pietraszkiewicz, Grade 8
St. Henry – Colin Fang, Grade 8
Silver: This student advances to the Ontario Mathematics Olympiad.
St. Bede – Kristian Young, Grade 8
Bronze: These students advance to the Ontario Mathematics Olympiad.
Prince of Peace – Sarah Belle Lee, Grade 7
St. Nicholas of Bari – Rhose Gueta, Grade 8
1st Runner Up: These students are alternates and may be called upon to participate in the Ontario Mathematics Olympiad if a Gold, Silver, or Bronze mathlete cannot attend.
St. Edward – Lisa Fernandes, Grade 7
St. Vincent de Paul – Lily Green, Grade 8
The Anne Cirillo Award is presented to students in recognition of their achievement, leadership, and excellence in collaborative problem solving.
The following students were honoured with the Anne Cirillo Award:
St. Albert – Jason Antao, Grade 7
St. Clement – Veronica Gluza, Grade 8
Congratulations to all of the students and thank you to their parents and teachers for the encouragement and support you provide to them every day! A special thank you is extended to all the teachers and teacher candidates who volunteered their time to make this event a huge success.
