Literacy

The Literacy programs provide support to adult learners in the areas of reading, writing and basic mathematics.

The types of programs are:

  • ESL Literacy - Classes are provided for English as a Second Language learners
who lack literacy skills in their first language.

  • English Literacy: Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) - This program is offered to learners whose first language is English (CLB 5+), but who need help with reading, writing or basic mathematics up to a grade eight level of competency.

The model of program delivery is a low teacher to student ratio.  In this setting, the instructional approach is learner-centered and individualized.  Learning occurs within
an integrated and thematic language curriculum.  Resources are drawn from a variety of
published, authentic, instructor-made and learner-generated materials.
