ATHLETICS The Archbishop Romero Athletics Department believes that athletics is truly and co-curricular pursuit. Varsity sports represents a tremendous opportunity to learn things that can't be fully realized in a classroom setting. Cooperation, leadership and selflessness find their way into a dressing room as easily as hard work, good judgement and critical thinking appear on a basketball court. Romero coaches are dedicated, enthusiastic and fair. Our fans are passionate. Our athletes are getting the most out of their high school years.
In order to try out for a varsity team, a Romero student must be taking at least 3 courses and have regular attendance. All student/athletes are expected to make an effort in every class, demonstrate good behaviour, wear their uniform properly and have strong attendance. A student/athlete may be subject to the athletics discipline policy, where, if a teacher has a concern a student/athlete will be disciplined according to our step program. Every Romero athlete must pay a $20.- athletic fee which goes to help cover the cost of officials, bus tickets, tournaments, equipment and uniforms. As well, the fee serves as your ticket to the athletic banquet. It is non-refundable. Intramural Sports Our students organize and run intramural activities every year. These inlcude: basketball and soccer leagues, and football, volleyball and badminton tournaments. These activities are a great opportunity to get involvedin sports in a more recreational context. Our intramural events are every bit as exciting as our varsity teams, maybe even more so. |
