TCDSB news release announcing the Arrowsmith Program
THE ARROWSMITH PROGRAM IN THE
TORONTO CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
The Arrowsmith Program is a cognitive program for students with learning disabilities that provides alternate programming strategies for learning disabilities within a learning disability program.

Students entering the Arrowsmith Program in the TCDSB have ordinarily been experiencing a range of problems including:

  • Reading
  • Mathematics
  • Comprehension
  • Logical reasoning
  • Visual memory
  • Auditory memory
  • Working memory
  • Dyslexia
  • Non-verbal learning
  • Attention
  • Processing speed

The Arrowsmith Program is based on twenty-five years of neuroscientific research demonstrating that it is possible to treat learning disabilities by identifying and strengthening weak cognitive capacities.

The goal of the Arrowsmith Program is to help students strengthen the weak cognitive capacities underlying their learning dysfunctions. The Arrowsmith Program deals with the root causes of the learning disability rather than managing its symptoms. Arrowsmith School has developed and successfully used this program with hundreds of students since 1980.

The Toronto Catholic District School Board was the first school board to offer this program when it initiated a pilot project at one school in 1997. The Arrowsmith Program has since expanded into seven elementary schools located across Toronto.

We invite you to visit the Arrowsmith School website for more information about the Arrowsmith Program.
