This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting, with emphasis on accounting procedures used in service and merchandising businesses. Students will develop an understanding of the connections between financial analysis, control, and decision making in the management of a business, as well as the effects of technology and globalization on accounting procedures and the role of the accountant.

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop the information technology skills and knowledge required in a business. Students will learn about the information technology work environment, use industry-standard software, conduct electronic research, investigate electronic business, and explore occupations and post-secondary programs that require information technology skills.

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of marketing, with an emphasis on in-depth analysis of the influence of changes in the economy and global marketplace, trends and issues, and the impact of technology. Students will analyze the buying patterns of various consumers and the effect of marketing strategies, and will engage in marketing research. Students will also develop and present a specific product.

This course emphasizes study of accounting principles related to financial statements. Students will learn about ways in which information in these statements is used in making business decisions, and about the effects on financial statements of using different methods of inventory valuation and adjusting and reversing entries. Students will also study various means of financing a business and ways in which the strength of a corporation van be determined through the reading of its annual report.

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop further the information technology knowledge and skills needed in the business world. Students will develop their understanding of electronic business environments, improve their skills in electronic research and in using business application software in the preparation of business documents, manage information and apply project team management strategies.
