MIME
The expressive, silent art of mime encourages focus, concentration
and commitment. Students learn about basic gestures, costumes and
makeup, run through a traditional solo mime piece, and create
skits of their own in partners and groups. |
|
* Use body movements appropriate for a specific character in role
play; create characters & portray their motives
* Use language and non-verbal means of communication effectively
for a variety of purposes both in and out of role
* Creation of performance pieces individually and in groups;
describing and evaluating their own and other’s work using
appropriate dance and drama vocabulary |
|
DANCE, MOVEMENT AND TABLEAU
Tableau, like mime, encourages focus and concentration as students
learn to be discriminate in selecting concepts and actions.
Tableau and movement workshops focus on exploring new rhythms of
physical movement, developing and sustaining concentration, dance
phrases, and group work. |
|
* Use of movement found in natural environment; describing basic
ways the body can be used in space &
time
* Creation of performance pieces individually and in groups;
describing and evaluating their own and other’s work using
appropriate dance and drama
vocabulary
* Identifying parts of the body and describing the variety of
movements that can be done by each of them
* Understanding and creating different patterns in creating
effects in drama and dance |
|
IMPROVISATION AND ROLE PLAY
Costumes, characterizations, and imagination abound. Emphasis is
on voice work, facial expressions, gestures and body language.
Students create original theatre using inspiration from games and
activities. Reflection and discussion follow performances, and
students are encouraged to relate their work critically to social
issues and relationships. |
|
* Using vocabulary, tone of voice and body movements appropriate
for a specific character when role playing
* Creation of performance pieces individually and in groups;

appropriate drama vocabulary
* Sustaining concentration; creating characters and portraying
their motives through speech and movements |
|
PORTRAIT DRAWING
This exciting workshop teaches elements of facial features,
guidelines for constructing realistic faces on paper, and uses
demonstrations from the class to engage children. Students learn
that they CAN draw portraits! |

thoughts, feelings and
ideas

boost their drama and arts content in the classroom – great fun and
learning experience for students.”

•
to draw upon many techniques to engage auditory, visual, and
kinesthetic learning styles: from movement, voice work, self
reflection, attentive listening, role play, characterizations, and
problem solving
•
to teach concrete fine arts techniques and skills and foster a love
and appreciation of the arts in students
