TCDSB Student Trustee 2007-2008

Diego Noronha is a grade 12 student at Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School in Toronto, Ontario. He currently serves as the Student Trustee for the Toronto Catholic District School Board. In addition he is also the President of the English Catholic Board Council for the Ontario Student Trustee’s Association - l’Association des Élèves conseillers et conseillères de l’Ontario. Diego is an active member of his school community partaking in many clubs and activities. This past year he served as the President of the Don Bosco Student Council and presently serves as the Student Moderator. He is also returning to captain his school’s Reach for the Top team for the fourth consecutive year. An avid reader and cyclist, Diego believes that a strong balance of physical and mental activity is vital in attaining a beneficial education. A fervent advocate for well structured learning environments, Diego aims to pursue maintaining and further increasing the standard of education across Ontario. Diego is immensely honoured to be representing not only the diversity seen within the Catholic students of Toronto but within the rest of Ontario as well.

History

The Education Quality Improvement Act, passed by the Canadian province of Ontario in 1997, mandated the creation of non-voting student representatives in publicly funded school boards across the province. Each year one secondary school student is elected to serve the Board as a student trustee.
