The Hanen
Centre is a recognized innovator in family-focused early language
intervention programs and learning resources for parents and professionals
around the world. As a charitable organization founded more than 30 years
ago, The Hanen Centre is committed to making a difference in the lives of
young children by supporting and collaborating with the important adults in
their lives. This applies to children who have language delays, who are at
risk for language delays, as well as to those whose communication is
developing as expected.
The Hanen Centre’s mission is to provide the important people
in a young child's life with the knowledge and training they need to help
the child develop the best possible language, social and literacy skills.
Hanen does this by:

to promote children's communication and language development during
everyday activities

speech-language pathologists/therapists to lead Hanen Programs for
parents and teachers and to use the Hanen approach in their day-to-day
clinical work

Training and Resources for Community Workers
-
The Hanen
Centre offers the You Make the Difference® Workshop to family support
professionals involved in community prevention programs and parent
education. This innovative workshop enables community workers, public
health nurses and others working with parents and their young children
to lead the You Make the Difference Parent-Child Interaction
Program as part of their prevention services. The program, designed for
groups of parents, is aimed at fostering the parent-child relationship
and promoting the child’s everyday opportunities to learn social and
language skills.

The You
Make the Difference Program is supported by a practical and
colourful guidebook and instructional DVD. These resources may be used
by parents and community workers involved in the program, or by anyone
interested in acquiring practical, research-based strategies for
enhancing parent-child interactions and promoting early-language skills.
Training and Resources for Educators and Child Care Providers

The Hanen
Centre has developed an innovative program for educators and child care
providers who work with young children in early childhood or nursery
settings and want to learn more about how to foster children’s social,
language and literacy development. The Learning Language and Loving It™
Program is supported by a user-friendly guidebook, as well as a DVD.
Although these resources are designed for participants in the
Learning Language and Loving It Program, they are available to
anyone who wants information on how they might use the Hanen approach in
their daily interactions with groups of children.
Training and Resources for Speech-Language Pathologists

The Hanen
Centre offers outstanding workshops around the world for speech-language
pathologists. Drawing extensively on adult learning principles, Hanen
Workshops offer speech-language pathologists leading-edge training in
effectively running Hanen Programs for groups of parents, educators,
child care providers and others who care for or work with children aged
zero to five who have language delays.

All Hanen
Workshops for speech-language pathologists include state-of-the-art
educational resources that make the learning experience more meaningful
and give speech-language pathologists the tools they need to effectively
lead Hanen Programs. Many of these materials are also available to
speech-language pathologists interested in learning more about the Hanen
approach.

The Hanen
Centre develops outstanding programs for parents of children with
language delays, unparalleled in their practical, user-friendly approach
and in the beautiful guidebooks and DVDs that support them. Hanen
Programs can only be offered by a Hanen Certified SLP or ECE who has
received specialized training at a Hanen Workshop.

families along the way. Although these resources are designed for

The Hanen Centre is also involved in a number of other activities

Conducts
and publishes research on its programs and issues related to their
effectiveness.

Offers
translations of many of its learning resources in languages other than
English to meet the increasing demand for information and training on
the Hanen approach around the world. In addition, Hanen Workshops and
Programs take place in non-English speaking countries as it continues to
grow and increase its accessibility to new communities and cultures.

Offers
subsidized Hanen Workshops to speech-language pathologists working with
preschoolers in publicly funded organizations in Ontario, Canada through
a grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
