Special ProgramsTCDSB is committed to accommodating the needs of students with a wide range of learning needs in an inclusive learning environment. Wherever possible, students are placed in the regular class with appropriate supports. It is recognized that some students who face specific challenges in learning may benefit from intensive programs that address their specific exceptionality. TCDB provides programs and services for students with academic, behavioural, learning and communication needs, as well as programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing, gifted or who have developmental disabilities. Each school has a school-based support team to consider and plan for students who require additional assistance or program modification. Specialized support services including social work, psychology, speech-language pathology and assessment/programming teachers work as a team with school staff to provide support and resources for students with special needs. The participation of parents is encouraged in all phases of the process to identify and meet their childs learning needs. Home instruction can be provided for students who are unable to attend school because of an accident or illness. For more detailed information, visit the section on Special Education. |
