February 2006
Dante Alighieri Academy strives to prepare our students to become successful in all of their educational pursuits. In order to accomplish this goal, one initiative which we have undertaken is preparing the Grade 10 students for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test is scheduled for Wednesday,
March 29th, 2006. All students take the test in grade 10 to measure their competency in reading and writing. If a student is unsuccessful, they may retake the test the following year. If they are still unable to pass the test, they can take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC), which is an OSSLT equivalent. The purpose of the Literacy Website is to provide students with information on how to prepare for the Literacy Test as well as to enhance their reading and/or writing skills. A further way in which students may better prepare themselves for the Literacy Test is by attending the After Hours Literacy Program which takes place on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 - 4:15 p.m. in Room 317. The After Hours Literacy Program under the guidance of teachers provides students with the ability to improve their reading and writing skills. Therefore, we would strongly encourage all Grade 10 students to take advantage of this opportunity and attend the after school sessions. Thank you for your support,
