Library Policies


GENERAL POLICIES

All students are expected to respect each other’s need to read, study and complete assignments in a quiet environment. The Library is not a student lounge. When using the library facilities, all students are expected to comply with the following polices:

• Students are to respect the school’s dress code
• Students are to refrain from playing cards and using cell-phones , CD players and electronic headsets
• Food (including gum) and drinks are not permitted


FINDING RESOURCES IN THE LIBRARY

Resources are indexed in Library World, the library’s online catalogue, by Subject, Title, Author, Keyword and Expert Keyword. The non-fiction resources are classified according to the Dewey Decimal classification system. .

Renewals

Circulating materials may be renewed once provided that they have not been reserved by another user. A first notice will be sent to the borrower when resources are one week overdue. A second notice will be sent to the Principal’s Office when resources are two weeks overdue.


COMPUTERS IN THE LIBRARY

Currently, there are sixteen computers for student and staff use. One computer is reserved for using Library World and the Accelerated Reader Program. Schedules classes have first priority. Staff and students may access Library World, Online Research Tools, Word Processing Tools and the Internet.

Each student must use his/her own Username and Password to log onto the computers. Students are required to sign in with the Librarian before using a computer. A time limit will be enforced during peak periods.

When using the computers, students are expected to comply with the TCDSB’s Acceptable Use Policy. Computers in the Library are to be used only for assignment-related work.

• No emailing or chatting.
• No playing of interactive games, videos or music
• No use of CD-ROMS
• No use of headphones

Computer accounts will be disabled for those who fail to comply with computer use polices.


eClass

eClass is a great way to access on-line courses and reference tools.

PHOTOCOPYING & PRINTING

Photocopies and prints-outs are .10/sheet

All print-outs must be authorized first by the librarian or a classroom teacher. Students may print their assignments from disks. All disks must be scanned first by the librarian or classroom teacher.

LIBRARY HOURS

Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
(Closed for staff meetings and special events)
