Zero Waste

The Letter Writing Campaign Continues

During the fast few months, we have contacted many companies about the issue of zero waste. Here are the companies we have contacted and why we contacted them.

Making a Difference through a Letter Writing CampaignWe contacted President’s Choice, Dad's Cookies, M&M's, and Skittles because they use too much plastic in their packaging. The plastic will create a lot of garbage. We suggested to them that they use recyclable materials such as cardboard or paper for packaging.

We also contacted fast food restaurants like McDonald’s, Licks, Burger King, Harveys, and Wendy's because they have been giving out too many little packages of ketchup. It has been using too much plastic and creating too much garbage. We suggest that they have a large ketchup bottle on the table. This used to be done at one point and it will reduce garbage.

Grocery stores are on our target list as well. Think about all the waste created from plastic bags (55 million in Canada per year). We have suggested they use cardboard boxes or start a plastic bag deposit return system (see restaurant grocery stores page) instead of plastic bags.

These are just some of the companies we've started contacting. If you find packaging that you think is environmentally unfriendly, send us an e-mail. We might not be able to get companies to change their packaging, but we can sure try!
