SOCCER NEWS

 

October 2009

 

The boys' and girls' soccer team participated in one day tournaments at Riverdale Park on September 22 and 23. Both teams put forth valiant efforts and represented HOly Cross exceptionally well. Our students exhibited determination, character and sportsmanship. The boys finished with a record of 1-1-1, while the girls finished in 2nd place. Special thanks to Ms. LaFreniera, Mr. Dolan and Mr. Abbate for their coaching efforts.

 

 

January 2009

 

December was Soccer Month for the primary students. Here are the results.

 

The Primary Boys Soccer team under the coaching of Ms. Lucente competed at the regional tournament on December 8th. The boys played extremely well and were able to capture second place. The team had to play through adversity, and some questionable calls. Congratulations to the team members and assistant coaches:

 

The Primary Girls Soccer team participated at their regional tournament on December 9th under the direction of Ms. Raccanelli and the assistant coaches the team was able to bring home a second place victory. Congratulations to the team members and assistant coaches.

 

 

October 2008

 

The girls soccer team captured first place on September 24, 2008 in the south region divisional meet at St. Patrick's. We started our day off at the wrong park but quickly made it to St. Pat's. A great big thank you ro the convener for realigning the games so that we were able to play all three games. The girls dominated the competition by outscoring the teams 21 to 0.So, then the girls were off to the South Regionals at Riverdale Park on September 29th. They played the quarter finals against St. Luigi and the score was 8-0. The next school they faced was St. John, who they beat 3-0. In the finals, they played against St. Clare. After a hard played ame the girls were victorious by a score of 3-0!

 

The girls are truly playing as a team. Now, the girls' soccer team is off to the City Finals at Esther Shsriner field on Thursday, October 2nd. Good luck!

June 2009


Holy Cross dominated at the Track and Field event at Varsity Stadium on Wednesday, May 27. As a school, we were the South Region Champions!


Congratulations to all participants and coaches. Good luck to all of our athletes in the Divisional meet on June 3rd at Varsity Stadium.

 

 

 

 

VOLLEYBALL NEWS

 

December 2008

 

Volleyball was the name of the game during the month of November. The Girl's Intermediate team was most successful this year and proved to be champions in both High School Invitational tournaments and Elementary School Qualifying play. The team went on to compete at the Metro-wide tournament as well and they were noted by many as one of the best teams in Toronto. Congratulations to all and thank you to our coaches and the suppporting Holy Cross Community.

 

 

April 2008

Jr. Boys Volleball

 

On Wednesday, March 26, 2008, the Junior Boys Volleyball Team competed in a junior tournament held at the Holy Name Catholic School. We played very well; thanks to the coaching skills of Ms. Paulo and Mr. Speyer. In total, we played 6 games. We lost one, tied three and won one. With that, we advanced to the next round finishing third among the six teams. In the semi-finals, we won only one of the three games against the St. Joseph Jaguars which eliminated us from the tournament. In theend, St. Michael's Choir School took the first place.

 

The team would like to thank our student coaches: Holly Hilts and Crissy Coracchia. Hopefully next year, our team will take home first place.

 

 

Jr. Girls Volleyball

 

On Thursday, March 27th the Junior Birl's Volleyball team went to Holy Name to compete in a volleyball tournament against six other schools. Although we did not win the team played well! We had a great time and demonstrated great school and team spirit.

 

We would like to thank Ms. Colangelo and Ms. Barrera for coaching us this year. We would also like to thank our Grade 8 coaches, Kayla Campuzano-Ruiz and Anne Ortiz-Macleod for all their assistance.

 

 

March 2008

 

Over the past few months, the girls volleyball team have been working towards a successful season. Their work paid off at the divisional tournament on November 13th when they came back undefeated! They continued on into their regional tournament on November 22nd. The team made it on to the semi-finals but unfortunately did not make it on to the Metros.

 

We would like to thank all the members of the team.

BASKETBALL NEWS

 

 

March 2009

 

After a long season of cold early morning practices, the Girl's Basketball Team finished as Divisional Champions beating their opponents 42 - 6, 30 - 4 and 29 - 4. A the Regional competition, they were defeated in a heartbreaking 15 - 13 quarter final game to St. Clare. Congratulations to all members of the team for a very successful season.

 

February 2009

 

During January the students participating in Boys and Girls Basketball where busy practicing and preparing for the up coming tournaments. The junior volleyballs teams were also hard at work for their up coming matches. Thank you to the coaches for their continued volunteering of their time and the students for being dedicated and showing up for those early morning practices.

The boy's basketball team practiced very hard and were prepared physically and mentally for the tournament.

They went out to Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11th and competed by representing our school. We gave our full effort and showed teamwork. We had a great time, we enjoyed it and we'd like to thank Mrs. Jensen and Mr. Mactal.

 

 

 

 

HOCKEY NEWS

 

April 2009

 

The team participated in the second tournament placing 3rd with two wins, one time and 2 losses. The players played amazing and had lots of fun. They all represented Holy Cross with pride. Well done!

 

 

March 2009

 

The team participated in their first tournament and played an amazing 5 games. We need to thank all our parents drivers for getting our players to practice and games! The team is looking forward to the next tournament! .

 

The Co-Ed Hockey team continues to prepare for their second tournament on April 2. In the first tournament on March 18, the team played very well. Although we did not win the game, the team gave their best and came close to putting one in the win column. The team finished in the middle of the pack. This upcoming tournament will prove to be the one where we make our mark. GO TEAM GO!

 

 

 

 

June 2008

 

Congratulations to all the athletes that competed at the Divisional Track and Field Meet on Wednesday. The team placed 2nd overall and qualified in 30 events for the Regional Finals. This result represents improvement as last year Holy Cross only qualified in 25 events.

 

A special mention to the Grade 8 Gurls relay who came in 2nd in their final Divisional Meet before entering High School. A wonderful accomplishment.

 

The team will be back competing on Wednesday, June 4. Good luck to all!

 

May 2008

 

The cross country team has competed at the Divisional and about 23 runners have qualified to attend the Regional event on April 30th. Congratulations to the 13-year-old boy's team that placed first. Individual finishes:

 

The 10-year-old girls group finished in second place.

 

The 12-year-old girls group finished third place.

 

The 13-year-old girls group finished in second place.

 

As a school Holy Cross finished in 3rd place with 1556 points. Congratulations to all that participated.

 

A special thank you to the coaches: Mr. Speyer, Ms. Paulo, Mr. Mancuso and Ms. Vella for coaching the runners in preparation for the season.
