CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER
It seems that with every passing day more and more boxes of chocolates
are being delivered to the school. The grade 8 students have truly
embraced this activity and are putting all their energy and effort
behind it. The number of students walking out of the building with
chocolate boxes is impressive. Thank you to Mrs. Robinson for organizing
the delivery of the chocolates. The grade 8 students will benefit
from all their hard work. Congratulations!
INFORMATION
Please be informed that we are currently updating our records when
it comes to students who remain at school for lunch and take the
bus. As per the permission forms completed in September your child
either stays at school or goes home for lunch. This information
must be correct to ensure the safety of our students in the event
of an emergency.
We will be checking into the situations were students are leaving
at lunchtime “sometimes” and are asking parents to determine
a more specific routine. For example: going home for lunch only
on Tuesdays.
Another area that we are looking into is the bus usage. If students
are using the bus service, it is understood that they are to use
it each day. Students are not able to pick or choose which days
they will be using the bus. Parents are to contact the school if
any changes are to be made. Again, this information is needed in
the event of an emergency and we need to verify if students are
at school or on the bus. Your cooperation is needed and appreciated
for the safety of your child(ren) and all of our students.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
We appreciate all the assistance parent volunteers provide to our
teachers and their classrooms. Parents must contact the office staff
to pick up an application to volunteer in the classroom. Our policy
states that parents cannot assist in their own child's class. If
they are helping out on a regular basis (i.e. once a week). Parents
are invited to assist with their own child's teacher with excursions,
workshops such as Scientists in the School or during special events,
such as Halloween or special art activities.
Volunterrs who are in the school on a regular basis must follow
Board Policy and complete a Criminal Background Check. Applications
are available from the office.

STAPLES BUSINESS DEPOT
Last year Holy Cross was registered with Staples Business Depot’s
Recycle for Education program. This year I have also registered
the school. When disposing of used ink and toner cartridges for
recycling please drop them at any Staples Business Depot.
This is a wonderful community giving program that focuses on three
core areas: environment, education and entrepreneurship. The school
will receive a gift card with a dollar value which is based on the
funds raised for the last year’s program and then we can purchase
items that the school community chooses.
PLAYGROUND
Students are reminded that rough play is not allowed. Students
should not be playing games that are of a physical nature. Please
remind your children that our number one rule is "keep your
hands and feet to yourself". Parents please continue to discuss
the rules of play when in the schoolyard. This message is particularly
important to the students in the primary grades who continue to
play games involving pushing, chasing and piling on. We do not want
to see any child get hurt so please remind your child about playing
accordingly.
MEDICATION
Please be advised that sutdents are not allowed to have any type
of medication with them. An exception is made for students who must
carry an epi-pen. All medication must be stored in the office (this
includes puffers). School personnel are not permitted to dispense,
or administed any type of medication without the written, signed
authorization of the parent and the prescribing physician. The forms
to dispense medication must be updated on a yearly basis.
PEANUT AWARE ENVIRONMENT
As per correspondence given at the beginning of the school year
and at Halloween, we are a Nut Aware School Environment.
Parents, please be vigilant about reading labels when purchasing
food/snacks for your child to bring to school. All food bought for
school consumption is to be clearly marked peanut/nut free.
Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.
