Hello All: This is Odd Week 21. We are officially on the other side of the hill!
Last week OKOF organized a week-long used book drive. We thank them for their civic-minded action and for continuing to raise our awareness of social justice issues. We look forward to hearing about the generosity of our students.
Thanks also to the Business Department for hosting yet another tremendously successful Business Day. Carm, Ken and I visited many of the workshops and Ken even won $5.00 from the keynote speaker. (Talk about a perk for supplying!) It was evident by the smooth flow of activities how much work went in ahead of time to coordinate and organize all the events. Congratulations to Sandra, Maria, Suzie, Kitty, Heather, all BOH student organizers, tech crew, presenters and to all participants. This was a first class event!
Welcome back to both the Senior Girls’ Volleyball team and to the Curling Teams. The volleyball team spent the weekend in Ottawa and the curling team was in Lindsay. We look forward to hearing how you fared.
Thanks to all teachers of university-bound students. Their first official “due” date was last Friday for all unit work and tests. Lynda Dever will have more information for you regarding entering their marks in the binders in Student Services.
If you haven’t already seen Carm’s email on Friday regarding the Academic Alert letters, please have a read right away. It is amazing the difference a bit of perspective makes. I believe that by having TA’s act as a filter for Academic Alert letters, it allows us to send accurate information to parents and helps us share information between colleagues. As a result of discrepancies in comments letters send in error to special education students, Student Success – Credit Rescue, for typos, and TA input/interventions, we would ask you all to take another look at your Academic Alert letters. We will hold off printing and mailing the letters until teachers have the time to make changes. There is no master method of pulling individual comments, so please forward any TA concerns to the appropriate subject teacher where necessary. FOR ALL TEACHERS, IF YOU HAVE GRADE 9 STUDENT SUCCESS – CREDIT RESCUE STUDENTS IN MATH, SCIENCE, ENGLISH, FRENCH, GEOGRAPHY, AND RELIGION, PLEASE USE THE ACADEMIC ALERT COMMENT PROVIDED IN CARM’S EMAIL. Carm has attached a list (previously emailed to all teachers) of which grade 9 students are involved in Credit Rescue. Thanks for your assistance with this. If more time is required than 3 p.m. on Monday, please let Carm or Andrea know ASAP.
As of Monday, February 1st, we welcome Mike Wetzel as Acting VP and who will be filling in due to Santo’s absence until March 6th. Taking over for Mike will be Patrick McAlpine (yes – that is correct!). We are thrilled to have Patrick join our staff and are confident that he will do a great job for Mike’s students. Thanks to Ken Predovich for his assistance the last week.
For those of you who were aware, Terri-Lynn Stoneburgh interviewed and was awarded a permanent position at Msgr. Fraser. Her last day was Friday. Sal Valvo and Matthew Rocha have been asked to help out in the English Department until all our arrangements and leaves have been sorted out.
Welcome back to Donna Nangini who is returning from a semester one 4 Over 5 leave. Donna will be assuming Joann Newman’s courses. It is great to have you back, Donna!
In case you are somewhat confused by the comings and goings of staff at Ward, we get it! Sometimes it feels a little like a chess game. We will continue to keep all staff informed of staffing changes.
And now for this week’s activities….
MONDAY is the change-over day for the PHE and Religion departments. Grade 9 students will now be in PHE and grade 10 students will now be commencing their religion course. These students will be in-serviced by both departments. Grade 10 religion students will attend a period 2 assembly on Monday in the cafeteria to kick off their course. Stay tuned for email or morning announcements.
TUESDAY has a CLU3M trip to the Courts, ski and snowboard practice, and is the start of the Marketing Fair.
WEDNESDAY will see the grade 11 Visual Arts students on a trip to the AGO as well as the continuation of the Marketing Fair.
THURSDAY is our lockdown drill day. We are anticipating the drill will take place sometime in the morning after Quad. Please review all details with your advisees. This will be an internal threat procedure. All students will return to TA immediately after the lockdown for a debrief. Thursday is also an extended TA – Quad #7 day. Please check your mailboxes for instructions.
Finally, good luck to members of DECA who will be competing this FRIDAY and Saturday downtown. We wish you luck. WAD will take place this Friday, February 6th. Please continue to “encourage” your advisees that participation in WAD is not only fun, but is expected. There is more to school and life than just unit completion (you can quote me) and balance and fun should be part of that experience. Don’t miss out. As for adult supervision, thanks to Meghan Peets for coordinating which adults are going where. We have an inordinate number of “emergency” drivers. We must have adults on buses. Carm, Mike and I will be coming around to ask a few favours…. In advance, thanks for all your help.
I do believe that is all for now. We wish you a wonderful week. |
