Hello All:  This is Even Week 18.  I hope everyone adjusted to coming back to school.  I’m sure the weekend was necessary to recover from the week’s activities.  As we mentioned previously, last Wednesday was the Unit 7 Target Date.  We have been looking at progress rates of students and this will be a focus for all of us as a school community.  As a TA, please continue to find ways to get your advisees to hand in their units and get tests written.  As subject teachers, please continue to use all creative ways to get your students to progress in your course(s).  If you have any great and innovative ideas for catching up or “event” days, please bounce them off us.  We are happy to help any way we can.

This MONDAY, January 12th immediately after morning TA, the Student Success Team has identified over 80 grade 9 students who are significantly at risk (0-3 units) in many of their courses.  These students have been “invited” to attend a compulsory assembly in the cafeteria at 9 a.m. on Monday.  We will be introducing the Credit Rescue plans for assistance between Jan – March Break.  Attendance will be taken at the assembly and Admin will follow up with any absent students.  Please encourage your advisees to attend if they have received a request to attend!

All Grade 10 PHE students will be attending a Snow Tube day on MONDAY as well.  All PHE staff – D’Agostino, Dever, Peets, Spatafora as well as Suzanna Smith will be out for the day.  Good luck to all participating and have some fun!

TUESDAY a group of grade 10 students will be out for the start of Grade 10 Retreats organized by the Religion Department.  There has been a request for additional supervisors to attend and assist with the Grade 10 Retreats.  Please consider lending your support via supervision assistance.  Let Amy or Steve know.

WEDNESDAY is a Department Heads’ meeting.  If you are unable to attend, please ensure you send another departmental member.  We will meet in the Library Conference Room at 2 p.m.    Please forward any agenda items to Carm.

We will have another day of Grade 10 Retreats on THURSDAY.  Check with your Grade 10 advisees to see when they will be attending.

There are a number of athletic events occurring each day either at Mary Ward or in other locations.  Please check with our on-line calendar where all athletic events are posted.  Come on out and catch a game!

As a means of heads up, Jan. 19th is our Unit Checkpoint/Conditional Zero deadline and the Unit 8 Target Date.  Academic Alert letters will be triggered.  Please let your advisees know so that they can get a move on!  Tuesday, January 20th is a Faculty Meeting morning.  We look forward to getting some engaging conversation happening.  And as if the grade 12’s need any reminding, the first University Deadline for unit work which has tests is next Friday, Jan. 23rd.  There is increasing pressure on our university-bound students.  Please keep this in mind and we will try to do all we can to lend them our support.

Have a great week everyone!
