Hello All: This is Odd Week 19 at Ward. Let’s hope it is a little warmer than last week. By now we should all be aware that the Student Success Team is offering the Grade 9’s a Credit Rescue opportunity between now and March Break. Your advisees (if applicable) are all aware and should be attending regularly. The floor schedule is being slightly revised based on increasing numbers. Attendance is being reported daily and we are following up on all kids from an Admin perspective. Thanks to the SST and all Teacher Advisors for helping twist arms that need twisting. Grade 10 Credit Rescue will take place after March Break.
Congratulations to Ryan Wong and the Senior Boys’ Volleyball team who were awarded the Sportsmanship Award for their conduct throughout the OFSAA Volleyball Tournament. This is a huge honour and is indicative of how well our boys behaved and acted towards their opponents. Excellent work, team! We are very proud.
This Monday is the Unit 8 Target Date and is also the trigger date for Academic Check Point/Conditional Zeros/Academic Alert letters. Santo has sent a memo to all teachers. Please have a read to determine timelines. Treat the academic alert letters as a call to action! Thanks.
Tuesday is our Faculty Meeting day. Remind your advisees that the school will be open to students and we will have I.A.’s in all departments. The meeting will run from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.. Bring your coffee mug. Morning TA will run from 10 – 10:20 a.m. Please direct students to the schedule in the agenda p. 34.
Winter Activity Day is almost upon us. Tony D’Agostino and a very large committee of staff members are doing a lot of planning to make this year’s day spectacular! We will be having an Extended TA on BOTH Wednesday and Thursday morning to facilitate collection of forms and money for the activities. It may be a little chaotic for your advisees both mornings but please bear with us. Please strongly encourage your advisees that participation in this activity is NOT OPTIONAL. It may be necessary to call home and let parents know our expectations of participation. If money is an issue, please contact Admin. Very few schools do Activity Days anymore. We need to have all students participating in order to maintain this great community building day!
Friday will be a great day at Ward. We are celebrating Mary Ward’s birthday. As you are aware, there will be a cake baking contest as well as a school-wide assembly in the gym in the morning between 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The assembly is NOT TO BE MISSED!!!! This one will go down in the Mary Ward annals as very memorable. Wait and see….
Finally, Friday evening will be our Semi-Formal dinner/dance. Tickets are going quickly and we are expecting about 400 students. Thanks to the Student Council moderators and to the council who has been doing some excellent work organizing this event. If you are interested in assisting with supervision of this event (and participate in some serious dress judging), please let Sandra Pezzetta know.
That’s it for now. Have a great week. Schedule for Friday, Jan. 23rd, 2009 – Mary Ward Birthday Assembly.
