Hello All:  This is Odd Week 37.  There are four more days (not counting Monday) to hand in units and write tests.  This is it and we are finally here.  Surprisingly, the Test Centre is noticing fewer test writers than in previous years.  We are not sure if this is due to the increased number of early exam writers or that students are waiting to write their tests this week.  Time will tell.  It was a nice weekend at times and we hope you had a chance to get outside and away from your marking for at least a little bit.  For those who were completely buried under a ton of marking, hang in there!  Summer holidays are coming!

The cafeteria committee will be meeting on Monday at lunch in the Office Conference room.  We hope to see you there.  Monday is the last day to write final exams in Resource Areas.  I am not sure that the early writing did not cause more difficulties than it benefited for students.  We heard that a number of students were concerned that areas were closed and their teachers were tied up with exams.  If you have an opinion on the topic, please feel free to share with Patricia, Santo or Andrea.

Speaking of early final exams, the Senior Science students will be writing their Early Exam during periods 1-3.  Good luck to those students and their teachers.

Tony D’Agostino and the PHE staff will be out at Centre Island with their students for a final rollerblading unit activity.  Finally, Monday evening will be Carm Giardini’s farewell dinner.  We will be meeting at Peter’s Fine Dining in Markham from 6 – 9 p.m.  It should be a very fun evening.

Surprise of all  surprises…..  There is absolutely nothing on our calendar except that it is a Day 0.

Wednesday is the Unit 17 Target Date.  At this point, I’m sure your advisees will be fully aware.

Tony D’Agostino and some members of the Track and Field team will be off for OFSAA in Toronto at Varsity Stadium at the University of Toronto.  We wish all athletes and their coach the best of luck.  They will be gone June 4-6.  Good luck also to Coaches Parlato, Emer, Gintoli, and Vecchiarelli who will be off to Ottawa with the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team.  The girls will be in school/TA on Wednesday but will depart after school on Wednesday and will be absent on Thursday and Friday.  Good luck to those athletes and their coaches.

Thursday is the celebration dinner for Paulette Sousa’s Exemplary Achievement Award.  We will be sure to take lots of photos.

Friday is the last day to write unit tests and to hand in units which require tests.  The Test Centre will likely be overflowing and other areas will have to commandeered and opened Business DECA room, 302 math, 229 Religion, etc…).  All departments should expect to have the I.A.’s asked to lend a hand in the Test Centre at some point.  Thank you for your cooperation in advance!

From the Library, Friday is also the last day to hand in library books.  Please remind your advisees to bring in their library materials.  Santo has prepared individual student timetables to facilitate returning of school materials.  Again, please remind your advisees that they need to HOLD ONTO THESE TIMETABLES!!!!!  It is particularly frustrating when students lose their timetables and have to scramble for signatures prior to their exams.

Friday night is also the evening of the 400th Anniversary Dinner in celebration of the IVBM and Mary Ward.  It will be held at The Terrace Banquet Hall, 1680 Creditstone Road, Vaughan and the Guest Speaker will be Sr. Cyril Mooney, IBVM, India (the same Sr. Cyril that spoke to our Mary Ward students).  The evening will begin at 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.  It should be a great evening.  Mary Ward staff will be at two tables.  Thanks for the great showing.

On a different note, I have prepared a tentative final exam schedule.  Right now Department Heads and Teachers are to look over the schedule for potential problems.  Please see my email.  Do not bother giving this to students.  I already know that some changes will have to be made.  I hope to have a different tentative copy to all students on Tuesday.  Once students have a look at the tentative schedule, please report any conflicts to me as soon as possible.  As a review, conflicts include 2 exams at the same time and 3 exams in one day.  Two exams in one day is not a conflict and is a reality at this and other schools.

Admin and Guidance will be coordinating a schedule of activities, dates, etc… for the balance of the school year.  We hope to get that out this week to you.
