Hello All:  This is Even Week 34 of 40 and there are 18 days remaining for students to hand in units and write tests.  As always, please encourage your advisees to write any outstanding tests and to consult with their subject teachers at any and every opportunity.  Good luck to all of us!

Last week’s Art and Com/Tech Show, Eccentrick was a tremendous opportunity to see the level of creativity here at Mary Ward.  We have some truly talented students led by an incredible group of highly skilled adults.  I was here for the Gala opening and parents, siblings, and guests were in awe of the excellent work in the basement.  Congratulations to all!

Thank you to Mary Louise, Lynda Dever, and the committed group of students that help coordinate the Stop the Stigma week.  Last Monday’s assembly was both informative and eye opening.  I believe that having all staff and students view the assembly was worthwhile and potentially helpful.  Thank you for the assembly and the activities throughout the week that helped raise our awareness of mental health issues.

Please welcome Deborah V – our supply CYW.  Wendy Jones is on leave for about 10 days.  Deborah will help out with our lates and attendance issues in the main office.  Deborah will drop by our Faculty meeting on Monday for an introduction to all staff.

Congratulations to Arthur Kurek and the Construction/Manufacturing department.  Arthur placed 5th in the most recent Skills Canada contest.  Congratulations also to Ryan Wong and the Dragon Boat team.  Ryan and team helped out at last weekend’s Angel Foundation Walk by overseeing the BBQ responsibilities.  Thanks also to Mary Louise Ireland who also helped with the event.  The committee was very thankful for all of your help.

Varsity Girls Flag-Football won the "BB" Divisional Championship of the 1st ever Toronto Invitational Varsity Girls Flag-Football Tournament which took place Thurs and Friday.

Monday is a Faculty Meeting schedule.  Our meeting will take place in the Library with Teaching Faculty.  Subject areas will be opened for students to work on units or to write tests.  TA will begin at 10 a.m.  The Faculty Meeting will be a continuation of our SBAT conversations regarding suggestions and discussions for 2009-10.

As a reminder, there will be a large group assembly for PHE students in the gym during periods 4 & 5.  As guest speaker from a pro-life organization will be speaking with our students.  Wendy Cassibault and the PHE department are hosting the event.

On Tuesday, the Senior Debates will be taking place periods 1 – 3 in CWS.  There will also be a rehearsal for the Spring Concert throughout the day.  The SAC election forms are due and the Steering Committee will meet at 2 p.m. in the Office Conference room.

This Wednesday will be a Civvies day in support of Aid to Women.  Details will follow.  Wednesday will also be our LAST Quad day in which students will work on their final Quad evaluations as well as discussing outstanding materials with their Quad teacher.  Please remind your advisees of the importance of this Quad session.

The SAC election will kick off and will culminate with the official election speeches and voting next week.    The Spring Concert rehearsals will continue throughout the day.  As a reminder, Department Heads will meet at 2 p.m. in the Library Conference room.  See you then.

This Thursday the Science Department is holding 2 contest exams – the grade 12 SIN Physics exam and the grade 11 Chemistry Avogadro exam.  We wish the best of luck to the students writing these contests.  Band/vocal rehearsals continue on Thursday.  Thursday evening.is the Music Department’s final Spring Concert.  The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.  We hope to see you there.

On Thursday as well, a group of teachers will be participating in marking the OCA exam (literacy).  There will be Code 83 teachers in to assist with area supervision.  For your information, Patricia will be out both Thursday and Friday, as she will be taking part in the Principals’ Retreat.

This Friday Tony D’Agostino and the Track & Field team will be competing in the TCDAA track meet.  We wish them good luck.  They have been training for a very long time and hopefully the effort will pay off!

This is a reminder that Friday will be the LAST DAY TO WRITE A FINAL EXAM IN THE TEST CENTRE.  After Friday, any students wanting to write an early final exam must do so through their subject teacher’s Conflict-Free Block time, which extends only until June 1st.  Otherwise, students must wait until the end of June Final Exam block.

We have an exciting opportunity to hear Sister Cyril Mooney speak on Friday from 9 – 12 in the Library.  Sister Cyril is from India and has much to share about her experiences working with the poor and (if I am not mistaken), Mother Teresa.  Mary Louise Ireland and Peter Petrasek have been involved in arranging this visit to Mary Ward.

As a clarification to an omission in the Agenda book, please inform you advisees of the TWO dates surrounding the last days to hand in units and write tests at Mary Ward.  Thursday, May 28th is the last day to hand in units WHICH REQUIRE TESTS TO BE WRITTEN.  Friday, June 5th is the last day to hand in units which do not require tests or to complete unit tests for which students have been authorized.  The following Monday, June 8th is a Day 1 and Tuesday, June 9th is a Day 2.  These days are for exam review, course status review, and presentations.  Please share/clarify these dates with your advisees.

            Have a great week.
