Hello All:  Welcome to Even Week 34 of 40.  There are 23 days of school left in which to hand in units or write unit tests.  As there are students who will be finishing courses early, if you have not already reminded advisees of the Early Exam memo and dates, please do so.  When you have established your early exam writing dates (if applicable), please have the Department Head forward a copy of these dates and courses to the office so we can be aware of not making announcements during exams and for adding additional supervision in the halls in your areas.  Thank you.

We have finally completed the Super TA process.  We hope it was a useful experience and that students and their parents have a better idea of how the year will unfold academically.  If there are students that have not yet had a TA interview due to their absences, please conduct the Super TA interview in absentia and forward it on to their parents if you have not already done so.

Thank you for your assistance with the Hold and Secure drill of last week.  As we found out, students will need to be reminded to bring ALL their things back to their TA locations.  Please remind students that in a Hold and Secure situation, they are to report back to their Teacher Advisors in the same place that they met for morning TA.  Please also remind your advisees that ALL headphones/ear buds must be removed while in the halls and in your TA areas.  Situations may change and all students and staff need to be able to hear any announcements over the PA system.  We are getting better at this.  Thank you for your assistance.

This week we are celebrating Catholic Education Week across Ontario.  The theme of this year’s focus is “Catholic Education: Good News for All.”  There are a number of Board-sponsored events that will be occurring throughout the week.  Between our Art Shows, Drama presentations, spring concerts, and our outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements, we have much to be proud!  We will be sharing these accomplishments at our CSAC meeting this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.  If you have any achievements you would like us to highlight to the parent community, please drop Patricia a quick email.  We love to share great news and parents love to hear it.

The Art show, ECCENTRICK begins this week!  The Gala Opening is Monday at 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. and the show runs the entire week.  The show continues Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and runs a littler later in the evenings on Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.  Do make a point of dropping by to see what interesting things have been going on in the Visual Art/Com-Tech Departments.  Show your support for your advisees and find out what Santo Visconti has been up to lately!  It appears that we have a budding conceptual artist on our hands!

This is also Stop the Stigma week which is focussing on mental health wellness and awareness.  There will be various activities all week including two brief assemblies this Monday.  Monday will be an extended TA and the two assemblies will take place at 8:50 (TA groups 1 – 34) and 9:20 (TA groups 35-69).  Please take some time to go over the week’s activities with your advisees.  With our upcoming June rush, and the ongoing quest to hand in units, many of our students and staff experience significant levels of stress.  We may all find something useful to enable us to better cope with everything that goes on in our lives.

This Monday evening Tony D’Agostino and members of the track team will receive awards in recognition of exceptional performance.  Congratulations to Tony and the team members.

Marion Poole and several members of the Student Success Team will be taking the group of Ministry-monitored grade 11 students to Manreasa Retreat Centre for an overnight.  They will be conducting an intensive focus on unit completion through a variety of interdisciplinary projects.  Thank you for your efforts.

It is time again to nominate OASIS leaders for the 2009-10 school year.  This is a very important task that Teacher Advisors need to complete.  The OASIS committee will be sending around/have sent instructions and a request for student names.  In the past we have had some difficulty with students being excluded as their TA’s did not submit names by accident.  Please take a good look at your advisees.  We are looking for strong and exceptional grade 10’s who might act as junior leaders as well as grade 11 students who possess strong leadership qualities.  Our final decisions will be made on Thursday evening.  Please ensure we have your nominations by that time.  We appreciate your help in this matter.

On Tuesday, the LSSAC committee will be meeting in the Office Conference room at 3 p.m.  Please forward any concerns you might have to one of the LSSAC committee members.

I had tentatively scheduled a Steering Committee meeting this Wednesday at 2 p.m.  The art show and the LSSAC meeting may be problematic for us to pull this off.  I have rescheduled the Steering Committee to next Tuesday, May 12th at 2 p.m.  Let’s try to clear our schedules to make this happen!

On Thursday we will be participating on our last Regional Student Success professional development in-service of the year!  Maureen, Kara, Ryan and Marion will all be participating including another one teacher from English, and CWS.  This will be the basis for part of our P.D. in early September and we will follow up at our next Faculty Meeting.

For your information, Fred Dever and the Girls’ Flag Football team will be hosting a two day tournament at Ward this Thursday and Friday.  The girls will likely be in and out of the building throughout the day.  Please welcome them to our school but remind your advisees that they need to keep the focus on their own academic work!

This Friday is Unit 15 Target Date and it is the last day for trips and events at Mary Ward.

Tony D’Agostino and the Track Team will be travelling to compete in Brockville over the weekend.  Best of luck!

As a reminder, Monday, May 11th will be a Faculty Meeting morning.  Please remind your advisees of the 10 a.m. start for students.

That is it for now.  We wish you an exceptional and stress-reduced week!
