Welcome to Week 11!  We are now into the middle of November and are enjoying weather that we should have received in October.  Let’s hope it continues!

Tawnee Collymore will spend her last week as a member of the Family Studies department.  Tawnee was a natural fit for our Ward community as she quickly learned about units, resource areas, webmarks, and the TA program.  She was always willing to give of her time as she got involved with the fitness club, gr. 9 sleepover, Spanish club, tutoring, Raise the Roof fundraiser, and the Family Studies wall mural.  You will be greatly missed by staff and students, Tawnee, but you will always be welcome at Ward.  Enjoy your week.

Thanks to all staff who took our students on trips last week: Mark Morra, Maria Scarano, and Amy’s Gr. 11 Religion Places of Worship excursion, and Marissa Largo and Mark Morra’s HRT 3M2 trip to the ROM.

Thanks, also, to the staff that remained behind and covered areas to allow these events to happen.

Our appreciation also goes out to: Jen Hayes for co-ordinating

WARD #5; Maureen Collie for bringing in author Don Aker who was well-received by staff and students; and Mary-Lynn and the Gender Justice group for organizing and co-ordinating the Walk Against Violence Against Women.

We were all given the opportunity to truly reflect at this year’s Remembrance Day assembly.  The powerpoint slides, dramatization, songs, spoken word, and the Last Post certainly sent a powerful message and set a sombre yet proud tone for the entire day.  Thanks to Mary Louise, Len, Jen Hayes, Peter Hathway, and Maura for the work and effort they put into preparing the assemblies.

The “This is It Dance” ran very smoothly thanks to the hard work of SAC and staff moderators Michelle Albert, Mary-Lynn, Sandra and Ryan.  Thanks also to Stephanie Cordeiro and Joanna Morra for giving up their Friday night to supervise the dance.

Thanks to the numerous staff who gave of their time to share the benefits of our school with our prospective new students for the 2010-2011 school year at the Gr. 8 Open House.  It certainly was a proud moment for Violet, Derek and me as we witnessed our students speaking, leading tours, and speaking with parents and students.  You continue to amaze us with the effort you put into sharing the special nature of our school with visitors.  A special thanks to John Notten and his TAs for their creative presentation and Derek, Peter Petrasek, and Mary Louise for organizing the evening’s events.

The junior members of our girls’ field hockey team had an exciting day at the Cardinal Newman invitational tournament.  The girls brought home the finalist banner.  Thanks to coaches MacIsaac, Peets, and Saran for giving the girls the opportunity to participate and end their season on a winning note.

Congratulations to all our fall sports teams who concluded their seasons over the last few weeks.  Much appreciation to the following coaches who gave of their time and expertise to offer our students the opportunity to learn and refine skills, compete against peers from other schools, and form new friendships with fellow Ward team-mates. A special thanks to our Athletic Director, Fred Dever who organizes busing, practice schedules, uniform, equipment, forms, and officials fees for our athletes and coaches.  We appreciate your hard work, Fred.
