TCDSB ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS
GRADE 3 - GRADE 6 INSERVICES
The mathematics department is now able to offer full day workshops ( 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.) for teachers in Grades 3 and Grades 6. The highlights of this professional development opportunity have been summarized below:
Workshop Description:
The focus of these workshops will be to review the instructional practices and assessment strategies needed to support higher achievement in mathematics. Examples of investigative three part lessons and rich assessment tasks specified by the Ontario elementary mathematics curriculum will be shared. The workshops will provide teachers with support to continue to improve the alignment of the mathematics program we deliver and assess, with that described in the Ontario curriculum. These efforts are already being reflected in higher student achievement in mathematics as well as improved results on the EQAO assessments.
The strategies addressed in this workshop must be an important part of the 50-60 minutes of mathematics our students experience each day. Many teachers are already implementing a number of effective strategies. This day will also provide participants with an opportunity to share their own effective investigative lessons and rich assessment tasks. We are asking teachers to bring one essential investigation or rich assessment task they have found to work well with students in Grade 3 or Grade 6. These will be shared at the workshop.
