History Blessed Mother Teresa was almost called Mary Ward, and because of Harold Adams - the Trustee then, the school came to be named Mother Teresa. The first four years was also known as the “Tin Can” experience because the school resided in relocatables and a port-o-pac and the new expansionist era, which began with year five in 1989-90 when under the leadership George Iantorno - the founding principal. A school filled with 650 students left the port-o-pac rooms and soon moved into the new structure and doubled its enrolment. In this new building the school began its new life. It's next task was to integrate many new staff and students into the school. Blessed Mother Teresa CSS has in its brief history shown itself to be a community school in two very fundamental ways: it embraces over 54 different ethnic minorities and it seeks to educate all who come to it, taking in students representing the complete spectrum of intellectual, artistic and athletic talent. Recently Blessed Mother Teresa received a brand new track and sports equipment courtesy of the Nike Company. This track had brought the community together. The first event celebrated in 2007 was the Terry Fox run. It was a great success and we were able to raise a grand total of $3000 to help find a cure for cancer. Ms. Souter's Message
Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School is a vibrant and diverse
learning community that successfully prepares all of our students for university,
college, apprenticeship programs and the world of work. The BMT community
is based on a firm commitment to Catholic education and to the teachings
of Blessed Mother Teresa. Our school motto, "Amare et Servire" means to
love and to serve and our students and staff have been actively involved
in serving the local and global community by raising awareness and participating
in activities to help others.
In addition to academics, our dynamic staff prepares our students for their future lives with respect to growing in their faith, leadership, communication skills, creative thinking skills, collaboration, life long learning, being a caring family member and becoming a responsible citizen. As the principal of Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, I have welcomed the opportunity of getting to know the students, staff, parents, St. Barnabas parish and the local community. Together, they make our school community a special one. I have been at BMT since 2002 and the student and staff involvement is remarkable. Staff and students join together for teams, clubs and many events. Our students are able to mature and grow through adult mentorship. BMT has an active leadership program whereby we build leadership skills in our students. Our school facilities are first class and in addition to our well equipped computer and science classes, BMT has a state of the art hospitality/tourism kitchen and conference center as well as a new sports complex consisting of a rubberized track, basketball court and soccer pitch. Each and every day, I am proud to be part of this wonderful learning community.
