Launches History of Board “We Remember, We Believe”
The Trustees of the Toronto
Catholic District School Board have released the book We
Remember, We Believe by Robert T. Dixon. Commissioned by
the Board of Trustees, the book is an account of the
amalgamation of many small separate school boards into what
is now known as the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
It also narrates the story of the sacrifices, commitment and
determination of Toronto’s religious orders and the Catholic
community to establish and expand Catholic schools in the
Toronto area. Archbishop Thomas Collins and a number of
representatives from education and Toronto’s founding
religious orders were in attendance. The Records Department
provided a historical display for the launch of the book,
which included photos and original written documentation
from the Board’s inception. The book is distributed by the
TCDSB at a cost of $32.00. For further information, please

of the original minutes of the Trustee meeting dated January
14, 1856, proclaiming their incorporation.

Angel Foundation Fun Walk
Staff, students and families walked to support the Angel
Foundation for Learning on May 4th. The walk began at the
Catholic Education Centre.

The walkers assembled before they
started their journey, including Director of Education Kevin
Kobus, Executive Director of the Angel Foundation Sara
Camilleri, Art Witham from the Angel Foundation Board of
Directors, CTV's Lance Brown, Deputy Director Les Nemes.--More

More Funding for Parenting and Family Literacy Centres
Minister of Education Kathleen
Wynne visited Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School on
May 1st to announce additional funding for PFLCs across the
province. Almost 40 new programs will be created for
September 2008, including five more in TCDSB schools.

Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton
hosts press conference regarding new curriculum
Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) working in partnership
with the London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) Multi-Organ
Transplant Program and the Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFC)
has developed One Life…Many Gifts, a senior secondary school
pilot curriculum program aimed at raising the level of
understanding about organ and tissue donation in secondary
school classrooms across the province. One
Life…Many Gifts was funded by the Ministry of Education, the
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and an anonymous
donor. This curriculum will be delivered in approximately
240 schools in 20 school boards across Ontario in the
2008/09 academic year.

Online Respect and Responsibility

School hosts this year's International Languages Symposium.

Brushamania 2008

Students at
St. Boniface Catholic School took a few minutes out of their daily school
routine on April 4th to learn about proper oral hygiene as part of the Brushamania event. Among the many special guests on hand were TCDSB Trustee Paul
Crawford, Carlton the Bear from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dr. Larry Levine,
incoming president of the Ontario Dental Association, Hon. Margarett Best,
Minister of Health Promotions and Dr. Raffy Chouljian. Principal Peter
Stachiw joined the group as they brushed and brushed.--More

Focus on Youth Launch--April 2008

TCDSB Chair
Catherine LeBlanc-Miller addresses the media at the launch
of the 2008 Focus on Youth summer programs. To her right is

Arctic Games at
Neil McNeil
Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary School hosted
several Toronto Catholic elementary schools for this year’s
Arctic Games on Friday, February 22nd. A group of
Neil McNeil students assisted at the various activity
stations throughout the day. The activities included a
musical presentation and a variety of traditional games such
as blanket toss, tug of war and snow shoe races.

Minister of
Natural Resources Visits
Thousands of Ontario youth will
gain valuable skills and experience this year
through provincial government youth employment
programs related to natural resource management.
Minister of Natural Resources Donna Cansfield
visited Michael Power/St. Joseph to speak to
students about a $6.8 million investment in five
programs: Ontario Ranger, Ontario Stewardship
Ranger, MNR Internship, Post-secondary Co-op and
First Nations Natural Resources Youth Employment (in
partnership with Confederation College). The
ministry is also participating with the Ministry of
Government and Consumer Services in five additional
programs: Summer Experience, Ontario Internship,
Internationally Trained Internship, Ontario-Quebec
Exchange and Aboriginal Youth Work Exchange.
