Welcome
to the wonderful world of Grade Two!
We
are looking forward to another great year at Our Lady of Sorrows
School. We would like to provide you with some information to
help make this a successful and safe year for your child.
General Expectations
The
students are expected to follow the O.L.S. Code of Behaviour,
as outlined in the student agenda. In addition, it is understood
that students will be expected to:
• To develop a Christian and caring atmosphere within the
classroom consistently displaying respect for teachers, peers,
self and property.
• To attain a standard of quality work from each student
that best reflects his/her abilities in daily work and special
assignments.
• To achieve thoughtful completion of daily work, homework
and special projects.
• To develop the skill of organization of self, work and
time in class to create optimum learning opportunities.
Homework
For
first term the homework will primarily be reading, as well as
some Family Life and occasionally unfinished class work. Students
are asked to fill out a log recording the reading they do at home
and hand it in each week. A spelling dictation covering “Words
of the Week” found in the student agenda will take place
each Friday. This word list includes word wall words, the spelling
unit words and math words for the week. Also, once throughout
the year your child will be the “Star of the Week”
and will have a daily responsibility that week. Please keep in
mind that time spent on homework should not exceed 20 minutes.
Agenda
All
homework, class reminders and upcoming events are recorded daily
in the agenda. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure
that all necessary books are taken home each day. A homework bag
has been provided to keep all books and papers organized. Please
ensure that the homework bag is returned to school daily with
the agenda. If possible, please review and initial your child’s
agenda on a daily basis.
Communication
and Contact with Home
We
are dedicated to supporting you in nurturing your child intellectually,
socially, spiritually, emotionally and physically. In order to
coordinate home and classroom goals, we welcome parental input
and assistance. If we feel that a child is experiencing difficulty
in any area, we will notify you in a timely manner. Should you
have any concerns, please contact us through the office at (416)
393-5246 or in a written message in the student agenda. We will
be happy to schedule an appointment to meet with you.
