Valuables

Students are discouraged from bringing valuables (ie. expensive jewellery, radios or tape players, money etc.) to school. We cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage to a student’s personal property.

Physical Education Classes:

Students are expected to wear gym shorts or track pants, a T-shirt, socks and running shoes for Physical Education classes. Students may only be exempted from physical education with a medical note.

Sickness/Health

If your child should become sick while at school, we will make every effort to contact you or the emergency contact person. Please make sure that we have the correct information i.e. name, address, phone numbers, etc.

It is quite usual for students to have minor injuries while at play during recess or in physical education classes. We try to look after these minor injuries at school whenever possible. A bandaid and a piece of ice go a long way towards alleviating a child’s unpleasant experience. We will contact you if an injury is of a serious nature or if it involves the head. We will inform parents so that you can be aware of any side effects which may appear. We make every attempt to look after our students as best as we can.

Medication:

School staff is not permitted to give medication to a child without authorization forms from the doctor and parent. Children who self administer medication are asked to give it to their teacher for safekeeping. Authorized medication will be administered at the school office, and not in the classroom.

  Homework

Homework, in moderation, can be beneficial to children in many ways. It can help to:

develop a sense of responsibility
teach organization
provide practice of skills
complete work not done in school
pursue personal interests through projects

Homework can also provide communication opportunities between parent and child, enabling all to know what is being studied. Parents can assist students by ensuring a quiet time and place for homework to be done.

Suggested approximate length of time spent on homework:

Grade 1 - 3 - 10 to 15 minutes or less per night
Grade 4 - 6 - up to 60 minutes
Grade 7 - 8 - up to 1 ½ hours

Parents reading to children is an excellent academic activity. Rather than attempting to wade through and memorize school readers, please visit your local library and select books which are of interest to you. The librarian can be most helpful in selecting interesting and age appropriate materials.

Our pupils will be encouraged to know that the library behind Agincourt Mall (one of the Scarborough Regional Libraries) carries quite a large stock of French language materials.

Pupils are also invited to bring school library books home. We do have a growing collection of French language books and a large selection of English language books.
