  Physical/Health/Outdoor Education

Department Overview

The Catholic student who has successfully completed a balanced physical and health education program recognizes and accepts the differing abilities of self and others. The student also values, within a Christian context, the importance of health and well-being and has the commitment and capacity to pursue a physically active lifestyle. The primary purpose of the physical and health education department is to develop curriculum that connects in a positive way with the image of the learner as stated above and to assist teachers with the implementation of curriculum through the organization of professional development activities and through the provision of resources. A related function of the physical and health education department is to assume overall responsibility for the organization and operation of athletic activities sponsored by the Toronto Catholic Schools Athletic Association. The aims and ideals of the TCSAA which drive the organizational plan are listed below:

The Physical/Health/Outdoor Education Department is available to support schools in the teaching of concepts related to Health and Physical Education. The department has two resource teachers available for in-servicing of teachers and lesson development.

The Outdoor Education Department organizes and supports school trips to board subsidized outdoor education sites. Schools are offered trips on a rotating basis. Each elementary school within the Toronto Catholic District School Board will be offered a trip approximately every 2 years.
