CENTRE HIGHLIGHTS

The St. Simon Healthy Active Living and Learning Centre offers three types of professional learning for teachers in the area of health and physical education:

  1. On-site Regional Professional Learning Sessions at St. Simon

*      Focus on major topics and initiatives for groups of 30 to 35

  1. On-site Health and Physical Demonstration Lessons at St. Simon

*      Small groups of teachers (3 to 8) from the same or family of schools can come the centre and view a “demonstration lesson” on a topic of their choice

  1. Off-site Professional Learning Session
                  *      I am also available to come to your school and help you and/or a small group of teachers with their health and physical education programs.

                        

HOW TO REGISTER FOR AN

“ON-SITE REGIONAL PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SESSIONS

*      If you see a topic that peaks your interest, speak to your principal about attending the regional professional learning sesssion of your choice.  CODE 92 supply days are available.

*      Register using .

*      Upon registering with PAL, complete the CODE 92 Professional Learning Supply Application Form  and forward it to your superintendent.

 

HOW TO REGISTER FOR AN “ON-SITE”

HPE LESSON DEMONSTRATION

AT ST. SIMON

The North Region teachers will also have the opportunity to come to St. Simon and see a “demonstration lesson” in Health and Physical Education.  If you or a small group of teachers from your school would like to come to  the centre to see to a demonstration lesson,  please speak to your principal to schedule coverage (CODE 92) and then send me an email ( adalgisio.bria@tcdsb.org ) with the following information: 

*      Your grade

*      The area of need/interest in the HPE curriculum

*      A few afternoon dates that would be convenient for you or your group to come to the centre.

I have provided a list of the major sections in the   OPHEA Binders.  Please consult your grade’s curriculum binder in order to help you narrow your area of need/interest before sending me your email.

 “OFF-SITE”  PROFESSIONAL

LEARNING SESSION

I will also be available in the afternoon  to come to your school and help you (or a small group of teachers) with  your (their) Health and Physical Education programs.  All you have to do is to speak to your principal indicating that you would like me to come in to your school for a professional learning session and then send me an email    (adalgisio.bria@tcdsb.org ) with the following information:

*      Your grade

*      The area of need/interest in the HPE curriculum

*      A few afternoon dates that would be convenient for you to meet with me at your school.

 

I have listed a few areas of need/interest for you to consider.

 

POSSIBLE TOPICS

*      HPE 101

Designed to introduce and help teachers work with the OPHEA curriculum document from planning lessons/units to assessment/evaluation while addressing “gymnasium management.”

*      Health and Physical Education—The Literacy and Numeracy Connection

Designed to help teachers make the connections between many curricular areas and the HPE program.  It will focus on making the classroom “active”  as well as making the gymnasium a literate/number filled space.

*      Intramural Activities—Primary to Intermediate

            Designed to help schools organize and deliver intramural activities by empowering the intermediate students as  Student Athletic Commissioners (SAC) and Physical Activity Leaders (PAL).
