Policy:

 

In accordance with Regulation 298 under the Education Act, the TCDSB permits external organizations to advertise in its schools and Board owned or operated facilities, and on the Board website, provided such advertising does not exploit students and is in accordance with the regulations outlined herein. 

Regulations: 

1.                  Companies seeking to advertise on a Board wide basis, through the payment of a fee to the Board, shall seek permission from the Board. Permission shall be granted by   the Board based on the following criteria;   

(i)                  All advertising must be in accordance with the Board's Mission and Vision Statements and its commitment to Gospel Values and social justice. 

(ii)                Under no circumstance will advertising by tobacco, distilling, fermenting or brewing companies be permitted in schools or facilities owned or operated by the Board. 

(iii)               Any Corporation or product listed must not be in violation of any current Canadian laws. Staff to determine if the corporation is violating any such laws will complete reasonable due diligence. 

(iv)              Any Corporation or product listed must not be in violation of any International Human Rights laws. Staff to determine if the corporation is violating any such laws will complete reasonable due diligence. 

2.                  Following Board approval of printed materials containing advertising for schools, it is the responsibility of the Principal, with the advice of the Catholic School Advisory Council, to decide if the materials are appropriate for distribution in the particular school community. 

3.                  Following Board approval of website-based electronic advertising initiatives, it shall be the responsibility of the Co-ordinator, Communications for the content of the advertising and to ensure that it is in accordance with the provisions of this policy and regulations.
