Policy

Principal and interest earned on a principal donation of $14,155.00, as well as on any further contributions, is to be used to provide an annual award to an eligible female student graduating from St. Joseph’s Morrow Park Catholic Secondary School to encourage and support her in her pursuit of studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Regulations

1.                  A principal amount of $14,155.00, or such amount as reported annually, shall be maintained in the current accounts of the Board.

2.                  An annual award of no less than $500 will be given to a graduating female student upon proof of registration at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.

3.                  A scholarship shall be awarded to a graduating female student:

i.                     Academic standing shall be a critical criteria used in the selection of the recipient (students must have a minimum overall average of 80% to be considered).

ii.                   The student will also have a record of significant contribution to the school community (such as participation in student council, athletics, etc.)

iii.                  The student should also demonstrate active involvement in the community (e.g. volunteering at a local charity, other volunteer work)

iv.                 Financial need, in the broad sense, may be considered as a “tie breaker” in the event that there are a number of students who demonstrate academic and extra merit

4.                  The final selection of the recipient will be made by a selection panel comprising the Principal of St. Joseph’s Morrow Park Catholic Secondary School, a Superintendent of Schools of the Board. The Ho family, unless and until they otherwise request, shall be included in the selection of the recipient.

5.                  An award letter will be presented to the recipient during the recipient’s school’s annual graduation/closing ceremonies. The Ho family, unless and until they otherwise request, shall be invited to present the award to the recipient.

6.                  The distribution of the cash award is contingent upon submission of proof of enrolment in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.

7.                  If for any reason, the award is proposed to be discontinued, the Board will notify and consult the Ho family before any action is taken to discontinue the award, unless the discontinuation is at the request of the Ho family. Any remaining principal amount and interest accrued will be given, in Bonnie Ho’s memory, to St. Joseph’s Morrow Park Catholic Secondary School to be used at the school’s discretion with input from the Ho family.
