Policy 

Approved individuals and organizations may approach the schools for support of their cause provided the students receive a beneficial learning experience. 

Regulations

1.         The following are criteria that will be considered in determining the selection of individuals or organizations to be placed on the Approved Access To Schools list: 

(a)         must be in harmony with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church;  

(b)         must be in harmony with the aims, objectives and policies of the Toronto Catholic District School Board;  

(c)         must be related to one or more of the following: 

(i)      charitable orientation (religious or secular),

(ii)     educational affiliation or experience,

(iii)     humanitarian cause,

(iv)      community or service group,    

(v)       cultural or recreational endeavour,   

(vi)      a religious organization or individual in union with the Holy See;  

(d)         must be unrelated to political activist groups;  

(e)         must be unrelated to a profit seeking motive.  

2.         The Toronto Catholic District School Board may elect to add to the Approved Access To Schools list in instances of catastrophe and/or major emergency, and maintains the right to remove an individual or organization from its Approved Access to Schools list at any time.

3.          In situations where access to the schools is for the purpose of fund raising, all procedures shall be in accordance with Board policy S.M.04, Fund Raising in Schools.  

4.          Requests by individuals or organizations to be placed on the Approved Access To Schools list shall be made on an application form provided by the Communications Department. 

5.          Application to be placed on the Approved Access To Schools list will be considered by a committee established by the Communications Department and a recommendation will be submitted to the Director of Education for approval 

6.          If approval is granted, the individual or organization will be placed on the list for the following year.  

7.          Individuals and organizations will be placed on the Approved Access To Schools list for a period of five years, after which approval is automatically terminated unless the applicant re‑applies. Notice of expiration will be sent to the applicant one year in advance. 

8.          An updated approved list will be issued annually by the Director of Education. 

9.          Schools may support local individuals and local organizations not on the list as long as they meet the criteria established in Regulation #1 and the local Superintendent of Education is informed.  

10.        The number of individuals and organizations supported, as well as the degree of involvement, is left to the discretion of the principal.   

11.        Individuals and organizations on the Approved Access To Schools list will be responsible for the distribution of their material to schools and will not use the Toronto Catholic District School Board courier services unless specifically approved by the Director of Education.

Frequently through the year requests are received from various organizations for the assistance and cooperation of staff and students in worthwhile community endeavours.  Bearing in mind that the staff and students of a school can be involved in but a few such activities in any school year and that participation and involvement of staff and students should not interfere with the school program and should be in conformity with TCDSB policy, you are requested to offer your cooperation and assistance to the following organizations to which permission has been given:
