History & Tradition

Francis Libermann Catholic Secondary School has developed a rich history in its relatively young life. Founded in 1977 by Father John Geary, and staffed by a small group of dedicated professionals, the school at once established itself as a model of academic excellence and faith experience.

The school's motto, “Inter Mutanda Constantia”--steadfastness in the midst of change--has indeed proven to be the guiding principle of Francis Libermann Catholic High School. We have maintained a traditional, non-semestered, coeducational school which holds in high regard both academic excellence and Gospel values.

The emphasis on community and faith experience has led to the foundation of some highly regarded traditions from our retreat program to a wide variety of support to charities. Students are encouraged, and given the opportunity to live out Gospel values within their community as well. Ours is a rich, diverse and multi-ethnic population whose members see daily the true value of those blessings. Our sense of community has also been fostered by the very practical common lunch, where students and teachers are able to interact without being hampered by mismatched schedules. That community spirit has remained intact because the population of Libermann has been kept small and close.

How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students

Our school is proud to provide a positive learning environment for all students. Equity is part of our Mission statement and we deal with this issue on many levels. Our grade 9 program allows for individual modifications with support from the special education, student services and English as a second language departments. These programs are available to students at all grade levels. Our special education program received a citation for exemplary practice on the integration of students with special needs.

Within our community we are proud of our multicultural student body and celebrate these gifts through international night and our international students' association.

Libermann has won three TCDSB Exemplary Awards: Grade 10 Canadian History Fair, Grade 11 Physical and Health Education Leadership Course, and most recently our Medieval Fair project.

Libermann works in conjunction with the Hospital for Sick Children in presenting the PHAST PACES reading program.

In addition to the secondary school, Libermann is the site for one of the TCDSB's three congregated gifted programmes for grade 7 and 8 elementary students.

Writing is in the Family
Perhaps it’s in the genes? The brother and sister combination of Eul and Joselle Basa, both students at Francis Libermann Catholic High school, are TSU Unit Winners for this year’s Young Authors’ Awards. As a result of the guidance and encouragement of their English teacher, Caroline Howe, both Eul and Joselle won in the poetry category for grades 9-10 and 11-12 students, respectively. Congratulations!

Advanced Placement Scholars at Francis Libermann C.H.S.
Francis Libermann Catholic High School proudly salutes Zain Burhani and Kyle Gulab who have earned the title of Advanced Placement Scholar. The Advanced Placement (A.P.) program acts as a yardstick against which students can measure their educational progress. Admission committees of the most competitive universities are aware of the high standard of A.P. exams and view the A.P. experience as a reliable indicator of future success at the post-secondary level. We wish both Kyle and Zain every success in their future endeavours at university.

Congratulations to the following winners in the Toronto Star's annual High School Newspaper Awards: Edric Daguio, runner up in the illustration category and Patrick Atienza, runner up in the layout and design page volunteer newspaper.
