Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School opened its
doors to grade 9 students in the fall of 1998, with grades 10 through 12 phased in over
subsequent years. The school is a co-educational community school committed to developing
and celebrating the unique gifts of every student. Staff and students will work together
to develop a tradition of academic excellence rooted in the belief that each student must
have an opportunity to develop to their full potential intellectually, physically,
socially, emotionally and spiritually.
The school is named for famed 20th century Catholic writer and journalist Marshall McLuhan.
The academic program includes all aspects of a traditional liberal arts curriculum, but takes full advantage of contemporary communication and information technology to facilitate teaching and learning within all subject areas. Resource and gifted programs ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed. The school uniform, and the code of behaviour for students, has been developed in consultation with parents and students during the spring of 1998.
Marshall McLuhan offers a unique opportunity for students to become involved in the creation of a new school community through participation in a broad range of athletic and club activities which complement our academic programs. In experiencing the opportunity to work and to learn within a community of faith, students will be encouraged to heed the Christian call of a life of service, and to apply gospel values to life's opportunities, challenges and choices.

Marshal McLuhan Students and Acts of Charity
On November 25th, McLuhan's Peer Ministry Team launched this year's
Christmas Basket Campaign with spirited assemblies. The Christmas Basket
Campaign is a school-wide charitable initiative that clothes and feeds over
50 families in Regent Park and from within our own school community. In
addition to this campaign, McLuhan students continue their 10 year
commitment to serving meals at The Good Shepherd Centre on a monthly basis.
McLuhan is continually performing acts of charity, as witnessed recently in
the money and food items sent to The Philippines for Typhoon Aid and the
T-Shirts for Africa Drive, in support of Dr. Simone.
McLuhan welcomes Archbishop Collins!
On Wednesday September 30th, Marshall McLuhan Catholic
Secondary School had the privilege of welcoming His Grace, Archbishop Thomas
Collins to our school. The Archbishop first greeted our staff in the
chapel, bestowing a beautiful, affirming blessing, encouraging us to
continue serving in the footsteps of Jesus.
The Morning Prayer over the PA was then lead by Archbishop Collins, where
everyone in our building was inspired and challenged to take care of one
another, particularly the least of our brothers and sisters.
His Grace addressed our senior level students in an assembly, where the topic was “The Culture of Life.” This important topic resonated with our students, as they often bear witness, on our city streets and in the media, to the culture of death. Everyone was inspired by Archbishop Collins’ words and warm presence. In this intelligent, compassionate, humorous and what the students described as “real” individual, we were re-energized to be a people who always supports the culture of life. In this welcoming person of faith, we were inspired to not just proudly wear the cross on our uniforms, but to live it out in our daily interactions with others.
His Grace truly did grace us with his visit and we are honoured to have hosted him at our school.
