Prince of Peace Catholic School was officially opened and received the Bishop's blessing on December 6, 1988.
Earlier, because of the growth of the new Milliken Community, a new school had begun in eleven portables in St. René Goupil Catholic School's yard. In March 1988, Edward Jacko, the founding principal led the first 360 students, banners flying, on the walk from their host school to the beautiful new building beside the Catholic church from which it took its name.
Contemporary in design, with a distinctive central two-story atrium which serves as a gathering and performance space, the school is a wonderful example of architecture serving learning.
Our school draws a rich diversity of children from Canadian families who have come from all over the world, particularly Asia. We strive as a community to live out daily the model of Jesus--Prince of Peace.
The student population at Prince of Peace Catholic School
has a strong representation of many cultures from around the world. Many of our families
are newly arrived within the last five years. Regardless of a student's origin, we believe
in the uniqueness of each child. We recognize each child has individual talents, abilities
and special needs. We strive to assist all the students in our charge to grow and flourish
in an accepting and nourishing school environment.
The common element for our families is the Christian Catholic faith which the school staff nurtures and shares. The Born of the Spirit catechetical program is the foundation of our religious education instruction. It provides a daily guide for our teachers to help instruct our children in the beliefs and practices of the Catholic church. These values, beliefs and commitments are reinforced through shared liturgies, spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Efforts such as raising funds for ShareLife and participating in food drives, are expressions of Gospel values reflected in daily school life.
Fostering a safe and welcoming learning environment is a reflection of the Mission statement of the board and a school objective. We have a daily safe arrival program where, after taking attendance, we contact all parents of absent children to assure their safety.
Within the school every effort is made to attend to the physical, social and health needs of each child. We actively work to keep parents apprised of issues and situations which might impact on their children.
The classrooms at Prince of Peace school are welcoming learning spaces which are staffed by teachers and instructors with a high level of professionalism and training. There are classes for those who do not speak English well enough to work full-time in a regular class. The wide range of academic needs reflected in our community of learners is met by classroom programs that modify, remediate, enrich and support. Regular review of each student's progress by the school-based support team is followed, if necessary, by consultation with a regional interdisciplinary team. Thus the emerging social, emotional, physical and academic needs of every child are determined and met.
Student behavioral expectations are clearly defined. Expectations regarding student deportment are communicated through class lessons, announcements, individual student/teacher interviews and in class discussion. Initiatives such as peacemaker programs, group guidance counseling and commitment to the Board's violence prevention policy contribute to a safe learning environment.
We provide opportunities for student involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Arts activities such as band, choir and choral speaking are provided as well as full sports program.

Year of the Dragon
Witness to Faith Cross
The Toronto Catholic District School Board is ushering in the new school
year with a celebration to launch “The Year of Witness”, the third year of
the Board’s three-year pastoral plan focusing on Word, Worship and Witness.
For the year of Witness, the students at Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary
School have created a travelling cross, which will journey across the school
system throughout the year, with each school having an opportunity to spend
a day with the cross.
Prince of Peace Catholic School students welcomed the cross to their school on November 30.
