Regina Mundi Catholic School opened in October 1974 in a relocatable building with 400 students, 200 more than the estimated projection. The students and staff worked in two open area pods, one for primary grades 1-3 and the other for grades 4-8, while the kindergartens shared two classrooms.
The school community was primarily first generation Canadian of Italian descent.
From the outset, the exciting challenge of beginning a new school created a closely bonded staff who brought a mixture of experience, fresh ideas and enthusiasm in an effort to create a positive Christian outlook based on respect and high hopes.
Masses, celebrated joyfully at the school, were dedicated to the "Regina Mundi", Latin for the "Queen of the World", with a great sense of family spirit, a love of song and a sense of pride in belonging to Regina Mundi. Her feast day is August 22. At the school, we celebrate “Regina Mundi” with a school opening Mass traditionally held the 2nd Thursday of September.
In 1997 the original relocatable was dismantled and replaced with a new addition to the existing building. Currently all children and staff work and learn together in one all encompassing facility.
In the summer of 2004, the original pods of the school were finally closed. All classrooms in the school have four walls. Children’s learning environment is optimal.

The student body, ranging from junior kindergarten to grade 8, represents many cultures including Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Central and South American, West and East Indian, Sri Lankan, Phillipino, Oriental and still others from European and African countries.
We are committed to developing each student's potential to the fullest. In order to do so, we deliver a strong religion program which is also integrated into every area of the curriculum. Many opportunities are provided for participation in Eucharistic celebrations, paraliturgies, assemblies and daily morning prayers and reflections. Through these celebrations and paraliturgical services, we attempt to demonstrate the values and Christian concepts being taught in religion, family life and social studies. Students are empowered to assume leadership roles by participating in the preparation of celebrations and providing prayerful readings during opening exercises.
An ongoing objective of the school is to instill skills in our students which promote peacemaking and conflict resolution. This is done directly in divisional groups, through presentations and vicariously through visual displays. Students in grades 4 – 8 are invited to become Peer Mediators during the daily recesses. We are also committed to providing conflict resolution training opportunities for staff. As part of the Guidance program, staff also teach components of Second Step: A Violence Prevention Program. In partnership with parents, students and staff, a school Code of Behaviour has been developed and provided to every family.
In delivering the curriculum, we recognize the need to provide learning experiences that are geared to meet different learning styles. Our teachers make use of professional development programs to network with other teachers and to stay in touch with current educational initiatives.
Our staff attempts to incorporate technology such as computer awareness and familiarity into their programming. We have recently restructured our school library to hold a full computer lab. In the next few months approximately 20 new computers will be available to students and staff. It is our hope that through fundraising, we will be able to purchase additional computers. Staff will continue to attend inservices and share expertise amongst one another. Software geared to different age levels and abilities will form part of the programming.
Our highly trained and professional staff ensures that individual student needs are met by teaching to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Enrichment opportunities are provided as well. Students' needs are met through modification of programs when necessary. Special services are provided for those students with special learning needs. Together with professional resources employed by the Toronto Catholic District School Board, we ensure that the knowledge through out-of-school experiences and exposure to various cultural venues. These include visits to theatrical presentations, ballet and orchestra, visits to historical sites, to farms, etc. Our intermediate students participate in 2 overnight excursions: one to Mansfield Outdoor Education Centre (Gr. 7’s) and one to Ottawa (Gr. 8’s). In addition, our parent council (C.S.A.C.) and the Dramatic Arts department of the Toronto Catholic District School Board make it possible for presentations to be brought right into the school. Annually, during the month of January, students from Grades 1-8 participate in Public Speaking. Students are taught how to write and deliver a speech which is then presented to their classmates. Subsequently, three students are chosen to present again to a larger audience.
The expertise of the staff is further demonstrated in the wide range of extra and co-curricular activities offered to our students so as to develop talents outside of the classroom. Some of these include participation in volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, cross-country, track & field and W5H activities.
