History & Tradition

St. Elizabeth Catholic School opened its doors to the community in 1960.  Bishop Allen presided over the blessings dedication of the school to St. Elizabeth, cousin of the Virgin Mary and mother of St. John the Baptist.  We celebrate her feast day on November 5th

Our school is affiliated with Our Lady of Peace Parish.  The staff continues to work closely with Pastor, Father George Galea, and the parent community to celebrate school Masses and the sacraments.  Throughout the year, the dedicated staff shares the responsibility of educating our fine students in the academic subjects and in the areas of personal responsibility and respect.

How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students

Our commitment is to the children and creating a truly accepting and Catholic learning environment.  Our goal is to support our students as they develop their skills, talents, values and knowledge and to grow in the areas of personal responsibility and respect.

St. Elizabeth’s teaching and support staffs work cooperatively to plan for all our students. Educational Assistants team with the teachers to provide our exceptional students with support on an individual basis, in small group situations or integrated with peers.

Use of student agendas is just one vehicle for home/school communication.  The school also provides a safe and welcoming environment grounded in the clearly defined Toronto Catholic District School Board Mission and Vision statements; our code of conduct with its guidelines and procedures; our dress code of navy blue and white and our safe arrival – safe schools program. Our Grade eight students’ graduate to continue their education at Michael Power/St. Joseph’s and Father John Redmond high school.

St. Elizabeth staff, community and parent volunteers involve our students in a range of co-curricular and extra curricular activities including Intermediate, Junior and Primary sports teams, Intramural teams, Chess club, Concerts, Scientist in School, Reading Buddies, Excursions, Life Skills programs, School Spirit and “Civvies” days, Fun Fair, Play Days, Math Activity days, Student Council, Choir, WH5, Food Drives, Charitable Initiatives and many more. We also have an English Second Language class and Core French in grades 1-8.

St. Elizabeth has a PLASP after-school program available.  Busing is also provided for student transportation.

At St. Elizabeth’s we believe that to be successful there must be open and continual communication between home and school.  We can realize this as a team, with Parish, home, community and school celebrating our growth and accomplishments together.

St. Elizabeth Studies “People of Courage”
St. Elizabeth Catholic School kicked off the theme of courage with a school assembly.  A picture book about Rosa Parks was read to the students and they talked about how Rosa showed courage.  The students were asked to show courage during the month in their classrooms and in the schoolyard.  The students in Grade 2/3 researched people who have shown courage.  Students in Betty Da Costa’s class prepared a bulletin board display of “people of courage” from all over the world. These people put fear aside and stood up for what they believed.  All the students at St. Elizabeth are talking and writing about "people of courage".  The students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 are submitting reports to the principal on people of courage.
