St. Jude Catholic School is part of a vibrant parish community. The school was first opened in 1960. By 1964, the school population had grown to such an extent that students attended school in two shifts: the morning shift 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the afternoon shift from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Some students were bussed to other schools while additions were being built. Eventually other schools--St. Jane Frances and St. Simon Catholic Schools--were built to accommodate the growing population in the area. At one time there were over 1,000 students enrolled at St. Jude. Additions to the school include the gym, library, staff room and the section added beyond the library.
Graduates from St. Jude include federal ministers, professionals, tradespeople and hardworking homemakers and community builders. Many of our students return to express their feelings of love and sense of community.
Our school is dedicated to St. Jude, one of the 12 Apostles. He has been known as the “helper of the hopeless” or the "saint of the impossible”. This year, our school commissioned an honour roll. It was installed in October and blessed by Auxiliary Bishop Prendergast S.J. on the occasion of his pastoral visit. Images of St. Jude and St. Francis are part of the honour roll which also includes a prayer to St. Jude and a prayer to St. Francis of Assisi in English, Spanish and Italian--constant reminders that all things are possible with God.
There are many activities which exemplify the Catholic environment at St. Jude. There are celebrations of community masses and large school masses. Special child-centered masses are planned for smaller groups of students. Parish clergy visit on a regular basis. The prayer life at St. Jude is very active. In terms of visible signs there are many crucifixes, holy pictures and displays acknowledging our good works and commitment to our faith.
St. Jude provides students with a safe and welcoming environment. Codes of behaviour and consequences are discussed at divisional assemblies. Students and parents are welcome to discuss their concerns. For example, an anaphylaxis in-service and an establishment of an anaphylaxis protocol have addressed food allergy concerns.
There are many curriculum initiatives. Reverse integration has been introduced to enhance the learning of our exceptional and English as a second language students.
There are many co-curricular activities and programs organized at St. Jude. Students are involved in sports, arts and crafts, drama and music activities. In addition, there is a chess club and a W5H team. Over 70% of our students are enrolled in international languages in our extended day programs.

St. Jude Wins City Championship for Junior W5H
Once in a while, not that often, a combination of people and events come together to create a special atmosphere and produce spectacular results. Well, this year’s Junior W5H team fits the scenario. Last year’s team made history by winning our first Divisional Pennant in Junior W5H competition. A core of that same team along with some new additions continued where last year’s team left off. So, in the end this year’s team won a Divisional Pennant; survived an elimination round; won a regional pennant and went on to beat the odds and win at the City Finals. The pennant was secured as the best Junior W5H team in the entire TCDSB (150 schools)! Special congratulations go out to participants: Alfonso Davila (captain), Mark Cannataro (assistant captain), David Furlan, David Pecile, Anthony Giansante, Alex Tran, Andres Rivera, Michelle Jacques, Sarah Matti, Wani Rombe, Angelo Acosta and Christian Acevedo.
Special congratulations go out to the Research and
Development Department: David Cannataro and Cameron Rosier. Special
congratulations go out to coaches Miss Ferrari and Mr. Russo.

Carnival at St. Jude
Students at St. Jude Catholic School, together with the school’s French
Department, participated in various carnival activities throughout
carnival week. All students enjoyed the daily festivities as parents,
staff and students involved themselves in the many celebrations at the
school.

St. Jude’s Hosts
Chess Tournament
St.
Jude Catholic School hosted the North Region Chess Tournament held at
St. Jude’s. The day’s events included games that lasted over an hour and
students exhibited excellent sportsmanship.

Courage Activities
St. Jude Catholic School
promoted January’s Faith and Character Development theme of “Courage” by
rewarding the student of the month who made resolutions for positive
changes in his or her life. That individual shows the gift of Right
Judgement by making positive changes and leading others in doing what is
right and good. It takes a great deal of courage to do what is right.
St. Jude's had its annual Christmas concert on December 11th. The audience was delighted to hear our primary students singing their versions of several popular Christmas favourites. Included in this were songs in Spanish, Italian and French. A great way to put our people in the Christmas spirit.
Guinness World Challenge Record
The students and staff at
Monsignor John Corrigan Catholic School attempted to set a Guinness
World Record for the largest number of people walking 1 kilometre or
more at the same time on October 2, 2007 at 12:30 p.m.. All
participants were given a water bottle donated by No Frills Supermarket.
As an Eco-school, the students were rewarded with a school Gotcha
(ballot for a draw to win a divisional prize, a school tradition on
Fridays). To help make this event special two officers from the
local police department helped supervise this event. St . Jude Catholic
School also participated in “the World Record Walk” on October 3rd
.This day was “Walk to School Day” and the entire school, JK to Grade 8,
walked one kilometre in the hope that they would be part of history in
breaking the previous record set by West Australia.
