History & Tradition

Our school is named after St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, also known as “the little Flower”, a famous French Carmelite sister. St. Teresa was known for her kind deeds and was to inspire many in her life by the spirit of her “little way”. She attributed her “little way” to her deep devotion, love and trust in God. She was to live a life of prayer, devotion and sacrifice. She was born in 1873 in Alencon France and died from tuberculosis in Lisieux France in 1897. She was only 24.

The school and community celebrate her feast day on October 1st.

Our school was officially opened in 1957, with a new wing being added in 1967.

The present school population consists of a wonderful multicultural mix. Indeed St. Teresa Catholic School truly provides an environment where all cultures are affirmed and respected. We are also proud to be an integral part of the historic lakeshore community of New Toronto.
