TCDSB SAFE SCHOOL PARENT INFORMATION SESSION SURVEY

The Safe Schools Department of the Toronto Catholic District School is prepared to offer parent communities in-services on safe school procedures, new policies and legislation.  The passing of Bill 212 effective, February 1, 2008 has resulted in changes to the legislation that governs Safe Schools which are reflected in changes to TCDSB policies.

In order to respond to requests made by parents for organized “parent information sessions” in regards to these changes, we are asking that you take a few minutes to complete the attached survey and indicate your preferred topic(s) as they relate to safe schools.

The survey is available on-line.  Please click on the following link:

http://www.tcdsb.org/ssSurvey/survey.asp  or visit the TCDSB web site at www.tcdsb.org and click on survey on the home page.

We ask that you assist us by spreading the word amongst your parent community.  The survey will be available on-line until April 30th.  Once all of the information is collated, we will confirm upcoming information/in-service sessions based on interest and preferred locations identified.

Your support in completing the survey as well as informing your parent community is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Mary Jo Deighan

Coordinator, Communications, Public & Media Relations

January, 2008.

Dear Parents / Guardians / Members of the school community:

Every year, one of the initiatives of the Gifted Department is to organize a two-day conference, “Journey of Discovery”, for Gifted students at The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. This year, it is planned for Tuesday, April 22nd and Wednesday, April 23rd , 2008.

The purpose of this conference is to expose the students to a diverse array of workshops and presentations, specifically designed and selected to appeal to as many interests as possible.  Within our midst, there are budding artists, social activists / leaders, musicians, pilots, lawyers, writers, athletes, scientists and inventors.  We hope to awaken and nurture our students’ potential to become positive, proactive citizens of the 21st century.

In the past, these have included hands-on Science workshops, Karate demonstrations, and presentations by lawyers, artist, bankers and health professionals, to name but a few.

During the planning phases, we, the organizers, strive to include presenters from all walks of life: arts, sciences, environmental advocates, athletes, musicians, etc.

It has been our experience that our students’ creativity and imagination has been further heightened, often as a result of some of their experiences at this Conference.

The success of this conference depends significantly upon our ability to recruit presenters. Accordingly, we respectfully request that you consider volunteering your time, expertise and skills to assist us in engaging young minds.

Respectfully yours,

K. Anthony, K. Engelmann, S. Halliday, & H. Volk
