Message update from Emma Pagliaroli, Ward 5 CPIC Representative.

Greetings CSAC Chairs:

As a new school year is in full swing (welcome back), this year's CSACs should now be in place(congratulations) and the Provincial elections are over it's time for your first CPIC update of the year.

CPIC...what is it? For those of you not familiar with the TCDSB Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) we are a Ministry of Education supported Board committee who's sole purpose to improve parent involvement. The committee consists of Board, clergy, special interest groups, student, Trustee, teaching staff, and 1 parent from each of the 12 Wards representation.

UPDATES:

November 10th CPIC Conference:
I can not stress how crucial it is that parents in your school attend this conference.  The keynote speaker is Bishop Boissonneau, the Vicar of Christian Education,  and other guest speakers include experts like Minister Kathleen Wynne.  The workshops, exhibitors' displays and networking opportunities will be extremely helpful to parents in their goal to improve their child's success in school and a great tool for you to encourage new parent volunteers at your school. It's all free and located at CEC.  Registration can be done on-line through a link on Board's home page as well through hard copy registration.  You are our front line people so we really are counting on you to promote this event.  Please get the message out to your parents.  Attached are the poster, registration form and "draft "program"(for your eyes only at this point).

Safe School Advisory Committee
Through CPIC I have been invited to be on this Board committee. Our mandate is to update the Board's Code of Conduct to be in line with the latest revisions set out by the Ministry of Education by Feb 1, 2008.  The Board's Code of Conduct is already in great shape but we still have a big job ahead of us with our main focus being on the "Progressive Discipline" issue. At our first meeting it was determined that input from all the respective groups, including the parents of course,  will be obtained through an on-line survey which will also be available in hard copy format.  More info on this survey will be forthcoming.  In the meanwhile please let me know if you have any concerns or issues on the Board's Code of Conduct you would like brought forward to this committee.

CSAC Input for CPIC
It would be very helpful to me, in my role to represent you on CPIC , to get your input on all parent involvement matters.  Please feel welcome contact me through e-mail at p.i.c.emma@sympatico.ca or I would be pleased to attend any CSAC meeting I'm invited to if schedules permit.

Dear TCDSB Ward 5 Principals and CSAC Chairs,

My name is Emma Pagliaroli. I am honoured to inform you that I have been elected as your representative on the Parent Involvement Committee until the end of the 2008/2009 school year.

In order to bring to the table a clear understanding on Ward 5’s vision on how to improve parent involvement I will forward questionnaires, over the next 2 school years, for completion by your school community. Additionally, I along with Dan Amodio and Karen Lue Tam, alternative representatives, will make every attempt to be present at CSAC meetings we are invited to attend to discuss parent involvement directly with school communities.
