Famine, Fundraising and Fun!

On May 25th – 26th, forty students joined Ms Slosel, Mr. Penney and Ms Garnes in a 25 hour fast to raise money for Development and Peace, an organization which draws attention to issues around human rights and the environment.

Contributing at least $25 each, the students raised over $1,500 toward the campaign against injustices in the mining industry, particularly by Canadian corporations.  Fasting for 25 hours meant a full day of classes followed by an overnight stay at St. Patrick.  Students were kept entertained (and active) with movies, video games, a water relay, basketball, hide and seek (where’s Marco?), a visit from Ms Woodman-Harvey and her cat Keaton, a midnight science experiment and an outstanding power point presentation on the mining industry prepared by Leanne Chua, Juan Carlo Soriano and Cyrus Recana.

By 7 am only two students were still awake, which meant the rest had to be roused from their few hours of slumber at 8:30 am for a bountiful breakfast of pancakes, bagels, fruit and yogurt prepared by Ms McMullan and Ms Parish.  Many thanks to everyone who helped make this event so much fun, memorable and successful!    Check out the fun…
