PUBLIC SESSION 

Please add the following items to the agenda for the Regular meeting of the Human Resources, Program and Religious Affairs Committee in PUBLIC SESSION for Wednesday, May 7, 2008. 

1.                  MEMORIALS AND PRAYER       

            a)         Proclamation of Asian Heritage Month in the Toronto Catholic
                        District School Board.    p.1 

8.                  DELEGATIONS: 

a)                  Anthony Bellisimo, representing TECT, regarding effects of budget cuts on elementary school teachers.  p.2 

9.         REPORTS OF OFFICIALS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES REQUIRING ACTION BY THE BOARD 

f)                    Report regarding Replacement Staff.  p.3-p.10 

1.         That the Board leave at the discretion of the Human Resources department decisions to determine the appropriate qualifications and deployment of staff based on an on-going assessment of supply and demand data.   

2.         That staff continue the practice of consulting with the local trustee in regards to placements and transfers prior to presenting a summary list to the Board and that the Board as a whole approve the list as presented by staff. 

3.         That the Human Resources department be authorised to hire retired teachers for daily occasional teaching positions and that current retired teachers on the occasional teachers’ pool also be limited to filling daily occasional positions as well. 

4.                  That Long Term Occasional positions (15 days or more) be filled by non-retired occasional teachers except where exceptional circumstances warrant the use of an experienced teacher. 

5.                  That staff be authorised to fill vacant vice-principal and principal positions with retired vice-principal and principals where to do so would minimize undue disruptions to the system as a whole. 

6.         That the Human Resources department be required to report to Board, on a bi-yearly basis the incidence of recruitment, hiring and deployment of staffing.
