Biography

While Trustee Davis grew up in Etobicoke, she attended elementary school near High Park at St. Vincent de Paul Cathoilc School, where her father taught, and then later attended St. Joseph College School in downtown Toronto.

She earned her B.A. at St Michael's College, University of Toronto. After St. Mike's, she earned a Master's in Chinese Government from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (UK), and was a Ph.D. candidate in Government at the London School of Economics (LSE).  Her studies included six months of research in Hong Kong and mainland China.

When she returned to Canada, she had the honour of heading St. Clement's Youth Ministry leading up to the awe-inspiring Toronto World Youth Day celebrations in 2002.  St Basil's was then the site of both the happiest day of her life (her wedding in 2007) and one of the most difficult (her mother's funeral in 2008).  Currently she is a parishioner at both St. Basil's and Holy Rosary, where she is a lector and Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the St. Basil's Development & Peace group.

Professionally, she is a Senior Associate at Leman Group, where she has worked since returning to Toronto in 2001.  Her team delivers big one-time changes, like merger and acquisition integrations, corporate turnarounds, and organizational transformations, for large corporations in many sectors, as well as government ministries.  Clients hire the Group for their pragmatic approach to solving problems and our ability to work with their teams to create lasting change.

Ms. Davis is President of the Canadian International Council, Toronto branch, a non-partisan, nationwide research council established 80 years ago to strengthen Canada's foreign policy.   She also serves on the Board of Directors of Help Age Canada, Canada’s only organization dedicated exclusively to helping older people at risk in our city, across the country, and in the developing world.

She lives in the riding of St. Paul's with her husband Jonathan and their dogs Bailie and Gizmo.

Community Goals for our Downtown Schools

CLOSING THE OPPORTUNITY GAP
Our students should be provided with the opportunities and tools they need to discover their true talents and vocation, make discerning decisions, and support the creation of a just society.  As a Catholic Board it’s our responsibility to reflect our values in the decisions we makes as a system.  As a system, therefore, we must do all we can to close the opportunity gap in our schools – every student that enters our doors, should have the same opportunities for success and growth.  Every student should feel of great value by the investment we make in them as a human being and child of God.

WORKING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO ENRICH CATHOLIC EDUCATION
We are blessed in this city to have access to so much which can enrich our students and provide fantastic learning opportunities.  Whether that’s working with Salt & Light Network (hyperlink to http://www.saltandlighttv.org/), taking advantage of Diocesean programs like Tutus Tuus (hyperlink to http://www.totustuustoronto.ca/), introducing our students to individuals who, through their work or life, are living examples of ‘serving our Lord through each other’, or partnering with local organizations to expand our range of available educational tools.

BRINGING THE COMMUNITY INTO OUR SCHOOLS
Given the cost of living in the city, many families with children are moving out of the core.  Everyone agrees that our schools are an important part of our community and should indeed be a part of its hub  –  but, our current funding model means that small schools can’t survive.  Therefore, we must not only share with the community the great things that are happening in our schools, but develop community-based partnership which benefit everyone.

BROADENING AVAILABLE PROGRAMMING
We should be providing new programming opportunities for our downtown students which are linked with, or supported by, local centres of higher learning or businesses.
