OPENING DOORS OF MERCY

Celebrating Catholic Education Week

May 1 – 6, 2016

Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
Matthew 5:7

Catholic Education Week celebrates the significant contributions that Catholic education continues to make to the community, the province and the country. This year’s theme, Opening Doors of Mercy, combines the theme of mercy and the act of opening doors of reconciliation and forgiveness in our school communities, in our families and in the world, which complements our year-long focus on the Family. Our family of educators challenge each of our students to open doors of mercy and to serve God by serving those in need with grace and compassion.

As the largest publicly funded Catholic school board in the country, we are pleased to once again celebrate Catholic Education Week and faith-centered education. We take great joy in watching our students celebrate their faith as they journey through our Catholic school system. We walk with them, offering support, encouragement and guidance. It is our priority to make every student in our schools feel safe, included, welcomed and accepted.

It is fitting that Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, May 2 – 6, 2016 coincides with Catholic Education Week, exemplifying our Catholic community’s efforts to be accepting and supportive of all of our students’ needs. Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week will be celebrated with daily classroom activities.  Each day will focus on a theme, including a day centered on the restorative power of prayer in promoting mental health. We are grateful for all our educators and staff, for their dedication to sustaining the positive well-being of our students.

Catholic Education Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all who are working tirelessly to impart Catholic values to our students in the Toronto Catholic District School Board. We are immensely grateful for the important role you play as staff, trustees, parents, clergy and parishioners, in shaping the hearts and minds of our future. Your contributions, as partners in Catholic education, add to the richness that makes each of our schools unique places of discovery and development.

We thank you for your commitment to Catholic education and the crucial roles you play in the lives of our students.

Happy Catholic Education Week!
