Former Premier William “Bill” Davis among 2018 TCDSB Awards Night Recipients

William Grenville “Bill” Davis, former Education Minister and 18th Premier of Ontario, was among the recipients of the 2018 TCDSB Awards. The annual TCDSB Awards are presented to accomplished alumni, students, staff and friends of Catholic education.
Mr. Davis was a pivotal force in the public funding of Ontario’s Catholic School Boards. His leadership ensured the continued presence of separate schools in Ontario. As Education Minister, he extended public funding for the Catholic school system to the end of grade thirteen, ensuring that thousands more Catholic students across Ontario received a publicly funded education without having to switch to the public-school system. Mr. Davis was presented with a TCDSB Friends of Catholic Education Award for his support of Catholic education at the annual Awards Night held this year on May 7th.
Sharing the spotlight with Mr. Davis was Dr. Andrew and Joan Simone, who were presented with a TCDSB Award of Merit. The a husband and wife duo founded the organization “Canadian Food For Children” over 35 years ago.

Amos, graduate of Chaminade College School, a successful business man, writer, actor, who advocates for at-risk children and youth; and Dr. Peter Joseph Moloney (posthumous), graduate of St. Michael Catholic High School in 1908 (M.S.S.B), was the first to purify insulin successfully on a large scale, thus providing insulin to the world after its discovery in 1921.
