Toronto Catholic District School Board

Joel Ndongmi

Student Trustee for 2017 - 2019

The Toronto Catholic District School Board has approved a new Student Trustee, who will serve for the 2017-2019 term. Elected by his peers, Joel Ndongmi took his oath of office at a meeting of the Board of Trustees on September 7th at 7 p.m.

Joel is a student at Brebeuf College School in North York. As an involved member of his school community, Joel participates in the Brebeuf intermediate jazz band, he is a member of the music council, he represented his school at the Sears Drama Festival and he is part of the boys’ volleyball team. Joel was born in Pisa, Italy and moved to Canada at age 7. With French being his first language, Joel writes prayers and reflections and recites them in French during his school’s morning announcements every Thursday. Joel is passionate about student leadership and participated in a number of student leadership events, including the 2017 Voices that Challenge Conference and the Toronto Youth Cabinet Summit-Youth Week.

As Student Trustee, Joel aims to reinforce the communication between student councils and the Board. He hopes to inform more students about the many leadership opportunities at the Board and promote community involvement through extracurricular activities. He also hopes to promote environmental awareness by encouraging schools to participate in the Ontario EcoSchools program.

Joel joins fellow Student Trustee Rhea Carlisle who will act as Joel’s mentor during her second term of office. Outgoing Student Trustee and TCDSB graduate is Karina Dubrovskaya.

“We are grateful to Karina for her service and wish her well as she pursues her post-secondary studies,” says Chair of the Board, Angela Kennedy. “We wish both Rhea and Joel an enjoyable and successful term as the voice of more than 92,000 students in the Toronto Catholic District School Board.”
