Net Zero
The Toronto Catholic District School Board believes in the critical role
that our Catholic schools and facilities play in promoting environmental
responsibility and providing leadership and direction for the protection and
conservation of the environment.
In 2016,
TCDSB passed a resolution to become a Net Zero energy school
board. Net Zero is an ideal state in which measures are taken to
balance a load that human activity places on an ecosystem.
The TCDSB
commissioned a research study by an energy-efficient design research specialist
to look at the available opportunities and resources in order to achieve Net
Zero status. The Conserve First: Net Zero Research Study suggests that
the first step on the path to Net Zero is energy conservation.
Creating a
"culture of conservation" at TCDSB is critical to the success of
achieving Net Zero status. The TCDSB’s Environment Committee is committed
to working with all TCDSB stakeholders in their continued efforts to
create a culture of conservation at TCDSB, consistent with the ideas
expressed in Pope Francis' 2015 Laudato Si'.
We
look forward to sharing more information and resources with all stakeholders as we move towards Net Zero status and maintain our role as responsible stewards of God’s creation.
