TCDSB celebrates National Sweater Day

Friday, February 8, 2019

National Sweater Day is a fun way to learn about the importance of saving energy and to inspire you to use less heat all winter.

Heating accounts for 80% of residential energy use in Canada and is a significant source of emissions. If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just 2 degrees Celsius this winter, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 megatons – that’s equivalent to shutting down a 600 megawatt coal-fired power station or taking nearly 700,000 cars off the road!
Make it an ugly sweater day competition, sports sweater day, use your imagination!
Plan your campaign – get permission from the Principal to have the heat turned down in the school that day. Use announcements, school newsletters, posters and class presentations to promote the event and encourage participation from the whole school community, staff, students and administration staff.

Facilities Services will turn down the heat in schools that registered by two (2) degrees to support your efforts. Please note this may need to be arranged at a local level with the school Custodian.
