Toronto Catholic District School Board

​Waste Management


The Toronto Catholic District School Board is committed to environmental responsibility and the protection and conservation of the environment. It recognizes the importance of promoting and educating staff and students in the Board’s diversion programs. The TCDSB program is based on the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.


The Toronto Catholic District School Board participates in various programs to divert materials from the Landfill by participating in the following programs:


Single-Stream Recycling

The TCDSB participates in Single Stream Recycling at all Board Locations. The Boards recycling program is based upon the City of Toronto recycling program.


Food and Organics Recycling​

The TCDSB participates in the City of Toronto Green Bin Program. This program has been implemented in all school locations with the goal of reducing the disposal of solid waste and increase the diversion rate throughout the school year.


Ink and Toner Recycling​

The TCDSB participates in various programs throughout the Board to dispose of all used Ink and Toner Cartridges. This is done through vendor take back programs.


Electronics Recycling​

The TCDSB disposes of all electronic items in an environmentally responsible manner. This is inclusive of obsolete computers, peripherals, phones, monitors and more.


Hazardous Waste​

The TCDSB disposes of all Hazardous Waste through certified a Hazardous Waste Disposal Company. Items such as medical sharps, paint, ballasts, fluorescent tubes, ballasts. The TCDSB participates in the Take Back the Light Program through its current vendor.


Construction Debris Recycling​

The TCDSB specifies in all tenders that construction debris is to be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner by all vendors
